Montana should set up a home and home with Marshall. A trip back to Huntington WV where we won our first natty would be sweet.

I don't know who it was but here is a clue. Hum lets see.
"I am fully aware that Carroll and Tech believe we should play them and even that when we do, we should play there like its the 1930's again. They have been saying that at least since the Joe Glenn's days and I met his son at the 2001 championship post-game party and we were joking about that, and he played at Carroll."

Would love to see it happen. Would also love too see UM go fbs when the time is right.

And when is that. Everyone that was anyone from the late 80s/90s/early 2000s in IAA that could move up has, EXCEPT Montana. Even Youngstown State tried to move up when Marshall said see ya. The thing is the MAC rejected their application because of their athletic budget (1997 YSU athletic budget 9.7 million, even in 1997 the lowest MAC athletic budget was 21 million) and they were in Title IX hell. They were in Title IX hell until 2014 even.

Plus what conference you going to. Isn't like the MWC is geographically friendly for Montana, NDSU or SDSU.

Closest school to all three is Wyoming
Brookings to Laramie 671 miles
Missoula to Laramie 765 miles
Fargo to Laramie 800 miles

I have no clue when that is. People much smarter than me will decide what the next move is. FCS is a dying brand.

The official capacity is still 16,000. They did renovations, lowering the playing surface, which were supposed to allow them to expand to 20,000. They never did any of that though.
It's not a matter of taking a picture and looking at the number of people in the seats for attendance. I went to three games last year (attendance), Missouri State (26,482), Weber State (25,888) and NAU (26,229). All of those are above WA-Griz capacity (25,217) and there was plenty of room to stretch out and be comfortable around me for all three. Attendance is based on ticket sales.
Not saying Idaho didn't fudge the figures some, I think they played as the home team in Pullman one year against Washington State and they gave away a bunch of student tickets. Back when we called Dornblaser home turf, there were plenty of people in our camp that would have played there, and when it was built in 1972 or whatever, they were going to have an open air stadium because they were trying to move up. When the deal fell through on that, someone made the bad decision to put a roof over it to make it look like that quasit hut in Pocatello.
Thank the heavens that when we moved, the new home was made for expansion, and for a roof that I hope anyone ever allows.
One other thing on this stadium size.
I bought tickets for Sam Houston State at Hawaii and I thought we would be going to Aloha Stadium, where they used to hold the Pro Bowl, or whatever the name is on that place now.
Hawaii lists all their home games this year in the Clarence T.C. Ching Complex on their schedule and when I went to buy two tickets, I couldn't help but think the set up looked like that soccer stadium in Frisco the FCS championship is leaving now because of renovations.
Sure enough, I looked it up and they list the seating capacity at 15,000.
You have to include Hawaii on the most favored list too I strongly believe. If they didn't let Idaho stay at FBS level, how can they incentivize teams playing on week 0 to a 13th game to play over there. Now, I am sure, if they have a big program coming in they will likely move the game to the larger venue, but what is the difference that you are allowing a program that hasn't really been anything resembling average to low end mediocre in their best years to still operate?
Free vacations for the administration of the visiting teams maybe?
Seems like a double standard.

Aloha stadium was closed to spectator events and will be demolished. A new stadium is planned.

Thanks, that make a lot more sense. So, this place must be just what it looks like then, a soccer stadium they are using until completion.
Never been to Hawaii though, the wife wants to see her Bearkats and it should be interesting with their new coaching staff. Riley will be streaming off the radio on the phone and all will be good

No FBS AD is going to tell his team's 35,000 - 100,000+ fans that he scheduled an away game in a 27,000 person stadium (or live to talk about it)!
Joan Edwards might seat 35k but there probably isn't more than 10-15k at a game at any time, even the good games.

Okay... here's my thoughts on this. Yes. Please bring the Griz to Huntington. The people around here LOVE Montana. They loved the fans that came, and believe it or not, those two games are still very much talked about to this day.

I wear my Griz gear around town and always get asked about it. The same thing comes up; wouldn't it be great to play a rubber match and see who wins the third game? That's the truth.

Another truth: Marshall has a hard time filling Joan C. Edwards stadium. I mean... it's sad. The most people I have ever seen at a game was 21K=change when JMU came to town. There are empty seats everywhere at every game.

The soccer team (National Champs) and the baseball teams get far more support.

I really believe if UM came to town, they would come close to filling the stadium, that's how strongly people feel about those two games.

I don't think they would travel to Montana simply because they just don't have the money. It's not an FBS thing. The football program is not well supported anymore. A lot of the fans think they made a mistake leaving the FCS where they were a powerhouse and definitely leaving the MAC for the Sun Belt.

The reason they moved to the Sun belt wasn't because of their "traditional rivals". The boosters straight up say it's due to money and traveling expenses.

That's just plain sad to hear about the once mighty thundering herd. And also what worries many Montana fans about the prospect of moving up.

Intresting side note. At my daughter’s city swim meet here in Huntsville this year, I seen an older man decked out head to toe in Marshall gear. Had my Montana t shirt on so I went to strike up a convo with him. Turned out the dude played there and was one of the first freshman after the plane crash. We Are Marshall is also one of my fav movies. Pretty cool to meet someone who actually lived it.

Right now I think we should focus on getting our OOC schedules filled from adding SUU and UT-Tech to th3 Conference.

If we're playing an FBS team we should be @ Utah in 2027 as we both have an open date that year on the same weekend
