Montana - Root Sports Schedule

I can't believe fans of other schools are upset about this deal - the MT schools have been financing the conference for years and now that everyone doesn't get to play them every year we bent over backwards to get this tv deal so that every school still gets a bunch of money on the back of our fan base. The MT schools are LOSING money on this deal and every other school is GAINING money. We just did the Big Sky a huge favor and you are complaining!! Jeezus!

I too wish there were less Root Sports broadcasts for MT teams, because then we would actually have the local stations pick up the rest of the games which means more money and easier for me to see the Griz, instead we will probably not be able to see all the of the Griz games for the first time in God knows how long. So if anyone should be complaining it should be Griz fans!

Ranger,

Let's be intellectually honest here. It is a recruiting advantage for EWU.

What a stupid comparison. Using your logic, we have a recruiting advantage over Stanford.

Well don't OSU or ASU have an advantage over Stanford in they can offer a talented kid that doesn't have a chance to be accepted into Stanford. example Kevin Love can't be accepted to Stanford but he qualifies for UCLA. Isn't that an recruiting advantage for UCLA? Now the kid who can get into both say A. Luck is that an advantage for Stanford? Since they are considered one of the best Universities in the world. Does USC have an advantage with NFL caliber players since so many kids go pro from USC?

Sorry, but you're assertion that the MT schools are losing money and the rest of the Big Sky teams are gaining is not factually correct. According to the SacState AD, UM and USM are getting the bulk of the ROOT contract money and that's why they are being featured every game. The rest of the Big Sky schools aren't getting the benefit of the money or the exposure and now probably won't get picked up by their local affiliates either. So forgive us if we don't feel like the beneficiaries of any big favor from y'all.

First of all you need to be of above average intelligence to play college football, and to get into any college. Once THAT is accomplished the trick is to STAY in school. There isn't any program stupid enough to recruit someone who can't stay in school and make academic progress although mistakes are made.

I had 3 of mine go through school on athletic scholarships (two in Kansas one in ND.) They frankly could have worked at fast food joints and made more per hour. MOST learning for classes in college is from the hours OUT of class. For a full load that requires somewhere between a 50 and 60 hour week.. Couple that with practices, conditioning, training, and games and suddenly you have a 80 -90 hour week It takes more than a marginal student to get through. I see a pretty even recruiting advantage except for all except MSU - who takes it in the shorts (Big Sky wise) Everyone has to get through 2 semesters of calculus or above as a freshman/sophomore. The requirement a very SIMPLE way to weed out students. Most Schools with rolling enrollment have a similar "eliminator" (beware of some composition courses.)

BTW the min to even be eligible (Division 1)are:

SAT score of 1010 or ACT score of 86 (sum of all 4 scores)
4 years of English
2 years of Math (Algebra I or higher)
2 years of science (physical and natural; one must be a lab)
1 year of additional English, Math or Science
2 years of social; studies
3 years of additional core courses
14 CORE courses

The one EWU gal said something about if it was all about the MT teams, it would be called the Treasure State Conf...my bad, its just called the BIG SKY. I can see the confusion.
.

Chat, it was sarcasm.... But seing as you're a "boy" that is so condescending as to refer to someone as a "gal" it's pretty obvious that subtlety is not your strong suite. I guess "I can see the confusion.".

The local affiliates can still pick up the broadcasts if they choose. They just have to work with ROOT to do so. I am just curious on how many games of each team are actually broadcast every year. No smack, just want some info. Even the prior years Montana and Montana State had to share TV revenue of their games with their opponents. When EWU plays Montana they make money with more people at a home game and TV revenue and their guarantee and TV money at away games.

At the end of the season I'd really like to see a simple chart that simply shows each BSC schools TV money in 2012 compared to TV money in 2011. We'd be able to see who won and who lost in the Root deal.

Oredigger,

For a kid who can't make the academic standards of Stanford we do in fact have a recruiting advantage over Stanford. I'm NOT referring to an overall recruiting advantage for EWU over UM or for UM over Stanford. I believe we have a huge recruiting advantage overall with EWU. Have you been to Cheney? I won't get into this any further because I don't want to incite an inferiority-complex fueled response from the EWU people on this board eventually and predictably devolving into sheep jokes.

Does EWU have a certain advantage in the small area of recruiting kids (e.g. Rodney Stuckey & Taiwan Jones) who couldn't be accepted to UM/MSU for academic reasons? YES! And it was significant enough for Coach Pflu to talk about it as a recruiting advantage for EWU. He knows volumes more about this situation than I do.

I believe KXLY in Spokane picked up all of our home games last season, not sure about the rest of the conference.

Lived in Liberty Lake for many years. I know Cheney well, and I dont have a negative opinion of it. So I guess we do have a recruiting advantage over Stanford then. Thats all I was saying....technically we have a recruiting advantage over Montana Tech for the same reason. :)

Back to a broadcasting question and I'm sorry if it was already asked and answered.
Will Griz games be available to "stream" from Root sports on the net or do I have to sign up for some over priced, way more channels then needed Infomercial, Religious, Hispanic, Rap channel directcabledish just to pick up basically three away games.

I am sure they will be on bigskytv. Problem is, nobody knows how much bigskytv will be this season, or what kind of format, and support. I hope we know soon. :thumb:
