Montana JUST MISSES Grey Cup

The Montreal Alouettes beat the Saskatchewan Rough Riders to win the 97th Grey Cup at McMahon Stadium in Calgary today 28-27. They overcame a 16-pt 4th-quarter deficit to win on a buzzer-beating FG. I'm EXTREMELY happy because 13-year CFL veteran OL Bryan Chiu was one of my teammates at UOP.

Montana's Michael Stadryk (sp?), a DL, was on Saskatchewan's IR. On Saskatchewan's taxi squad was Griz QB Cole Bergquist. While both teams featured FCS athletes, Saskatchewan was FCS-heavy, with 22 FCSers between the active roster, the IR, and the taxi squad.

In an interesting sidelight, Montreal's taxi squad features Pitt QB Tyler Palco, who was suited up tonight for the Steelers vs. the Ravens. This brings up the question of his eligibility for Montreal's Grey Cup ring.

Sorry it didn't work out for Montana. I suspect that had Bergquist been in the starting lineup instead of on the taxi squad, the result may have been different.

I grew up 2.5 hrs south of Regina and went to probably more Rider games than Griz. This game sucked. Too many men on the field gave Montreal the win.
