Rocky Mountain Mens Basketball just won the NAIA Championship in convincing fashion. I do not care if this is not the GRIZ, it is Montana and quite an accomplishment. Congrats to Rocky Mountain!

BTW, this team runs a great offense.

Devin Usoski led the way with 24 points and 20 rebounds!

Don't be sorry. Carroll football crap gets posted all the time on the football board. Good Job ROCKY!!!!!

Bill Driekhosen needs to take Tinkles job. Sorry it had to be said. At least I'm consistent :D

Driekhosen got the NAIA Coach of the Year award. I know he is a Rocky guy through and through, but he is going to have some great offers.

Well, since we're talking non-Griz basketball, how about South Dakota State's womens team? They lost a second round game tonight 60-58 to a very good Baylor team . The Lady Jacks beat the LG earlier in the season. Between them and North Dakota State's men's team the BSC really dropped the ball in denying them membership. Both schools would have been great additions . Even better than Sac State Zzzzzz.

He definately will. I know Division 1 will probably not be the next step but I'm sure plenty of Division 2 and 3 schools will be talking to him.

And just think this guy never even got AN INTERVIEW for the MSU-B job.

A little more info.

Rocky wins NAIA national championship
By The Associated Press

KANSAS CITY, Mo. ? Devin Uskoski had 20 points and 24 rebounds, and Rocky Mountain College won its first national championship in basketball by beating Columbia College 77-61 in the NAIA men’s title game Tuesday night.

Rocky Mountain (28-9), which had never won a game in the national tournament prior to this year, picked apart Columbia’s defense to build a 19-point halftime lead and never let up, shooting 50 percent to turn the first NAIA championship between unseeded teams into a rout.

Nate Richardson, Rocky’s 5-foot-5 point guard, darted and dashed his way through Columbia’s defense, scoring most of his 14 points on a variety of high-arching floaters and runners in the lane. Chase Sukut provided the perimeter support for Uskoski with 11 points and James Bulluck also had 11 for the Bears, the fourth unseeded team in six years to win the NAIA title.

Christian Lewis had 24 points on 10-of-14 shooting and Brett Hoskins added 13 for Columbia (30-8) in its first NAIA title game. The Cougars, who play in the shadow of the University of Missouri, couldn’t get into a rhythm offensively against Rocky’s aggressive man defense and had even more trouble on defense to fall into a big hole early.

Twice in the first half, Columbia coach Bob Burchard sent in five players off the bench, though not as punishment for the starters. Burchard came up with the pull-em-all strategy after a 77-60 loss to William Woods on Jan. 22 and the Cougars responded by winning 17 of 18, including four straight in the NAIA tournament.

It didn’t matter what Columbia did this time.

Working through Uskoski in the post, Rocky made it look easy against Columbia’s zone, pushing a five-point lead to 28-17 after Burchard’s first mass substitution. The Bears led by 10 when Burchard made the switch again with 4? minutes left and Uskoski quickly responded with a three-point play, kicking off a closing 12-3 run that put Columbia up 45-24 at the half.

Rocky kept pushing after the break, overcoming a short Columbia run to extend the lead to 62-33 when Uskoski scored on a putback while falling to floor with 12? minutes left.

Uskoski, Rocky’s leading scorer and rebounder, bulled his way past Columbia’s defenders all night, getting 13 points and nine rebounds by halftime and finishing 9-for-14 from the floor overall.

Once it was over, he helped lead the celebration at midcourt, hugging and high-fiving his teammates as streamers filled the air before being named tournament

Congrats to Rocky. I grew up near the RMC campus and hold football games at the "Rocky Bowl" and pickup hoops games at Fortin Center among some of my better childhood memories. Pretty neat accomplishment for the Battlin Bears.

Looks like Rocky won't be coming to Dahlberg anytime soon though. Griz had a tough enough time with the 4th or 5th best Frontier team (Western) last fall.

My dad taught at Rocky for 25 years. There isn't a much more kid friendly place than the Rocky Bowl on a nice afternoon. When they get bored with the game they can roll down the sides or get a football game of their own going. I still use some sandstone blocks for landscaping that came from the old gym back when Herb Klindt was coaching.

We watched them struggle in athletics for a lot of years. This has been really nice.

Good write up but man a lot of their stats are wrong. Uskoski had 24 pts and 20 rbs. (not the other way around) He also had 14 pts in the 1st half. (not 13) Rocky was up by 21 at half. (not 19) Sorry to nitpick this writer, especially when its a good story about Rocky, but seriously get your facts straight AP!

just think this guy never got looked at for Tinkle's job. This is what is so irritating. There are hundreds of more qualified candidates that were passed over for the Griz job cause the Good old boy network had tunnel vision. And they continue to throw out multi year conract renewals for no reason....Please O'Day....open your eyes, see who is out there. We could actually have a basketball team in Missoula.

Bonus: They have Beer! :D $2.50/glass and they don't shut down until the last guy leaves (way AFTER the game) 8-) 8-)

EDIT: You said "kid friendly". My bad. :?

I respect more what Champions accomplish at this level than div 1A. 5 games in 7 days, tell me conditioning does not play an important part at this level. Then again, I played for 2 to 6 hours a day when I was in college and the military until my late 20's. Nonetheless, that has to be pretty hard to do physically.
