Monday Interview with Bobby

Lots of work to do before first game. In what positions? He said All.

QB starter not decided yet. Bergen will return punts.

Gubner stands out on the D. The D is tackling well. No other D names were mentioned.

He likes the coaching staff and they bring a lot to the table.

Splitting o-line coaching like he did is becoming more common in coaching. 4 TE's. TE is an extension of the o-line.

I don't think the receiver group was discussed.

Travis Benham from San Jose St. will be the punter. Had 28 punts last year. Averaged just under 40.

Puts him about 10th in the league last year...need improvement here for sure.

think you need to go back and see how many were on a shorter field...not saying he's gonna boom every punt 50+, but if a punter is continually trying to pin a team deep, they may not have the "average" that pops, but they could be just as impactful.

“ Totaled 5 punts that resulted in a touchback, 10 that resulted in a fair catch, 13 inside the 20, and three of 50+ yards on the season…”

yep. That proves my point. almost half of his punts were inside the 20...That shorter field definitely impacts overall average...I'd prefer a higher fair catch percentage over more yardage, actually...

We’ve been extremely spoiled the last two seasons with Punters that could flip the field and pin a team deep. Regardless, I’m glad we got a transfer with experience.

All American punters average far longer averages AND put the ball inside the 20, AND generate many fair catches...

Just look at BSC punter stats last season...

In no way am I suggesting he won't be excellent...but, this position is not an upgrade for the team...yet.

Honestly, I’m surprised that fully half of his were inside the 20.

I am not sure it is very possible to upgrade the position performance from the past several seasons, you just don't want to see performance fall off a cliff.

True. But, if any team should have the 1st Team BSC punter, shouldn't it be the Griz...with our special teams guru BH?

Well, if you are replacing your punter every year, chances are pretty good that isn't that case.

Punters and QBs...same. Wierd.
