Missoula golf courses

I'm thinking about making a weekend trip from Spokane to Missoula to play golf. The courses I've checked out are Larchmont, Canyon River and The Ranch (Phantom Links?). Any comments on these or others would be apprerciated.
I'd be OK with driving down to Hamilton if one of y'alls can get me a tee time at The Stock Farm.

Thanks.

Canyon River is a bad ass course. A pretty challenging course, but huge fairways. It's a lot of fun to play. Plus the carts all of GPS on them so you always know how far away from the hole, water, or trees you are. It's priced about the same as King Ranch in Frenchtown. Definitely worth the price of admission.

All 3 are good courses. Ranch Club is the old Phantom Links. I really like the course, although some don't. It can be a tough course if you don't have your "straight" clubs. Larchmont is by far the most crowded.

On your way over, stop and play 9 at St. Regis. Fun 9 hole course.

Thanks for the replies. I'm also looking into playing the course in Ronan. Does anyone have comments about this course.
I've already played Trestle Creek in St. Regis. It's a good nine hole course.

Courses I like:

- Phantom Hills/Ranch Club - Good links-style course, it's currently a little short so if you have some distance on your drive there are quite a few holes where you have easy birdie approaches. Lots of elevation and no trees. The wind plays a factor out there - its a very fun course.

- Canyon River - A longer course with some very imaginative holes, there aren't a lot of trees, but there are plenty of hidden hazards and tricky approaches. The one knock on this course is that its along the interstate on the back 9 and the two most beautiful holes (both par 3's) are really noisy with all the traffic. GPS golf carts are great.

- King Ranch (Frenchtown) - A step down from these other two but a fun course, mainly along the river and in a marshy area so lots of water and some big old trees. Not in as good of shape, but a good course for the money

- Larchmont - In my opinion this course really lacks personalitiy, there really is no style or signature to the course. Its a little long, but there are some shorter par 4's and 5's as well.

- Missoula Country Club - If you can get out there, do it. One of the older courses in the state it's fun, challenging and absolutley beautiful

Are the rumors true that they're going to lengthen Phantom Hills to host a PGA type of event? I thought I read that somewhere.

King Ranch is a fun course, a lot of water.. but the geese kind of get annoying after a while.

Canyon River is probably the best course I've played.. besides Briarwood in Billings. That course is an absolute blast with one of the best back nine's I've ever played.

Interesting to note, King Ranch and Canyon River were the same price to play as of last fall.. I don't know if that's changed this year or not. I hope not.

Yes Phantom (now Ranch Club) is planning on trying to become a PGA course. They're going to plant decorational trees around tee boxes and greens, add a lot of landscaping bushes to replace a lot of the fescue, and also to add brick & stone terracing on walkways and teeboxes.

They're also hoping to go private once their membership is high enough to support it. The new clubhouse that is going to be a massive remodel onto the existing will have mens and womens locker-rooms and lounges, a restaurant (w/liquor licence) and a larger pro shop.

Wouldn't this be easier??

if you can somehow get on stockfarm then do. it looks great. i've only been there in a working capacity and its sweet.

for the money kings ranch is great, much better than larchmont.

and like other's have mentioned the canyon is as good as advertised.
i like phantom hills ok. for me i like the hidden/fairway hazards/bunkers that they put in. makes it a real challenge.

Ronan is a good course, and is usually pretty easy to get on. Polson is also a very nice course. If you get into the Flathead Valley, there are a LOT of options for good golf.

I must be in a minority in that I am not a huge fan of the King Ranch course. I like the new 9 much more than the original 9.
