mind games

I actually didn't think the Griz looked intimidated until they'd managed to clank 5 straight good looks off the back iron and Syracuse turned every miss into a hoop at the other end. The first 3 or 4 minutes, guys were shooting it with confidence, but not making a damn thing. After that, no one in maroon was confident.

I disagree, even Tinkle admitted the Griz were playing scared at his halftime interview. Cherry and Jamar played like they were very intimidated. I hate to criticize Tinkle because he does a great job, but part of the intimidation problem may have come from him. Just after the half one of the on court broadcasters was talking about the brooms UM used during their practices. Essentially, they had the defenders hold up the brooms so the offense had to shoot over them (to emulated the bigger SU players). If that wouldn't intimidate you I'm not sure what would. It certainly wouldn't make you more confident.....

By halftime they were intimidated, no doubt. I just didn't see them start the game that way. They took good shots the first few minutes. Looked like they were confidently rising up on their jump shots. But once they clanked a few and SU scored on 6 straight possessions and the Griz trailed 12-4 or whatever, it was over.

Quit, intimidated, choked, looking for the showers....it seems as if all describe the Griz in this game. Could they have won? Probably not. Could they have played a closer game? Of course. Could our coach have prepared them better? No. What will it take for us to compete against quality teams? Leave the Big Sky Conference and join a conference that consists of quality members. We cannot expect our team to compete against top national caliber teams when we are accustomed to playing against division 2 type teams. It just won't happen, fellas, so either be satisfied or encourage our leadership to move to a good conference. I know, I know....we don't have any leadership. By the way....in my view, we have an excellent coach who certainly could take us to the next level and be very competitive with his teams.

As I said in a previous thread...

we missed out on a better conf when we turned down the WAC. The MWC would be a great conference but they won't look to add schools for some time. the only way I see a better conference happening is if an entirely new one is formed. consisting of UM, MSU, UI, EWU, WSU and ISU combined with UND, NDSU, USD and SDSU. maybe cal poly and UCD too. All these schools are proven or at least show potential (truly think ISU can/will get better) and decent geographic fits. the dakotas would boost both football and bball. NCU, NAU, PSU, Sac, and SUU are going nowhere anytime soon (apologies to ashamed and other fans of these programs, but this is the reality of the situation). :twocents:
