Michael Oguine...

GrizLA

Well-known member
What a find for UM! Oguine, playing on a playoff team from last year that lost 7 scored 45 points against a good Valley Christian team last night...this guy is a player! Made headlines in the San Fernando Valley....

oguine is really going to raise our profile in the southland. as with will cherry when he was in high school, everytime he has a good game, the article will say, "montana bound."

Very impressive. 45 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals in that game. I loved this quote:

“I am pretty happy with Michael, but I’m sure coach Travis DeCurie at Montana is more excited. He got a steal.”

Chaminade advances to the finals of the San Fernando Valley Invitational high school basketball tournament with a 64-53 win over Carmelite Crespi H. S.

Michael Oguine scored 23 points in the win over Crespi, a familiar Los Angeles Mission League foe of Chaminade.

"You just have to use it as motivation. You know they might count you out, but you just gotta use it as motivation. Guys like Damian Lillard especially, he’s one of my biggest role models. He wasn’t recruited in high school and he didn’t let it affect him. He used it as motivation and went out and proved that he was better than all those guys, and that’s what I’m trying to do."

Next year, Oguine will be playing for Coach Travis DeCuire at the University of Montana, and he is truly following the Lillard path. Going to a mid major like Montana and getting to play for a great coach in DeCuire will provide Oguine with a high level platform for him to continue his dominant ways, just as Lillard once did at Weber State.

michael's team loses the championship game of the san fernando vallery invitational on a last-second three. but he scores 20 and is named the tournament's mvp despite the loss.

let's step back and put this in perspective. twenty teams in this tournament, from the talent-rich san fernando valley. teams that over the years have sent hundreds of players to d-1 programs. several kids in this tournament have d-1 commits, including kobe paras to ucla and bennie boatright to u.s.c., but mvp michael oguine is going to montana. i'm not saying he's will cherry or kareem jamar, but i doubt either of them would have been mvp of this tournament.

litte wonder his coach says we got a steal.

and let's not forget jared samuelson. i've always felt montana kids come in way under the radar. i think he's going to have a fabulous senior year--on top of which we have two more schollies for this class.

Citay, thanks for the recruiting update.

I did a youtube search for Michael Oguine and was impressed with his demeanor, ability communicate, and his ready smile. Seems like a nice kid with a lot of heart.

Michael Oguine had 22 points, 10 assists and 7 rebounds in a loss to Loyola High School to open the Mission League Thurs....this guy is consistent and is no doubt getting looks from some top programs. I hope he stays with UM....

La griz: we have a signed letter from michael, we will see him in Missoula, so just relax and enjoy his accomplishments while keeping us posted, and thanx for the updates.

THE FUTURE OF UM BASKETBALL IS LOOKING BETTER ALL THE TIME. Michael Oguine scored 27 pts including the winning points in a thriller with Crespi High...The Mission League is considered among the very best in SoCal and that is some damn fine company. According to the Crespi Coach, this kid is part of the best back court in Southern California....

What a recruiting coup by the GRIZ!!! Way to go Travis!!!!!
Just checked scout.com today. He is up to the 26th rated PG in the nation and rapidly moving his way up the ratings. http://scouthoops.scout.com/player/181198-michael-oguine/recruiting" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

oguine is gonna be a star for us. question is, how quickly can he adjust to the college game. if quickly, we will be something next year with him and breunig on the court. but even it takes him time to adjust, we'll still have krslovic and samuelson down the road. much to look forward to with griz baskeball.
