Michael Oguine became the 32nd player in Montana history to score 1,000 points with his 23-point effort on Saturday. He now has 1,007 points in his career.

He is the first Griz to surpass 1,000 during his junior year since Kareem Jamar in 2014.

Oguine joins Hasquet, Larry Krystkowiak, Michael Ray Richardson, Bob Cope, Kareem Jamar, Kevin Criswell, Andrew Strait and Will Cherry as Griz to reach 1,000 during their junior years.

Oguine is 1,010 points shy of Krystkowiak's all-time record. He could break it if he averaged 24.6 points per game over the last 42 guaranteed games of his career. If he maintained his current scoring average and scored conservatively about 17 points per game, he will score 1,700 or more, making him one of eight Griz to surpass 1,500 points in his career.

The only Griz to reach 1,500 points without scoring 1,000 by his junior year is Wayne Tinkle, who scored 529 points his senior year to finish with exactly 1,500.

In other Big Sky news, Bogdan Bliznyuk earned Big Sky Player of the Week honors and moved into the Top 10 in the history of the Big Sky in the process. Bliznyuk scored 54 points over the weekend, giving him 1,855 for his career, breaking EWU's school record and moving him into 10th in Big Sky history. Bliznyuk needs 247 points (24.7 points per game over EWU's last 10) to break Orlando Lightfoot's all-time scoring record.

I was actually looking at the all team scoring leaders list this morning (its my slow time of year!) Mike is on course to become a top 10 all-time scorer for the Griz.

Also, the stats that I could come up with show that Ahmad Rorie has 929 points. He's likely to crack 1000 points this season as well.

I'm going to guess its been a while since we've had two 1000 point scorers on the team at the same time. Maybe Cherry/Jamar? Who know's how long ago prior to that.

Its crazy to think what both players have done up to the halfway point of their Junior years.

The best thing about it is that Mike had no idea until it was pointed out to him a week or so ago.

Congrats to Mike on the accomplishment!

I think both Jamar and Cherry played their junior years after Hasquet making Oguine the first junior to reach 1000 since Jamar...Unless I'm misreading something...

I was a little confused by that also Maybe Colter meant this early in their junior season? Not sure.

Yes you are correct. Jamar and Cherry both played after Hasquet, meaning they are the most recent to do it in their junior years. Doh!

Great to hear Oguine interviewed following this. Humble, very appreciative and aware of the program's history and not concerned about his personal achievements over the team's. A Dean's list student in the business program as well. Sure glad he's a Griz!

Can you imagine having this guy guard you (and you him) for a game?
