Men's basketball sucks

So what does everyone think the problem happens to be. Coach K letdown or inexperience on Coach T's part. I'll qualify this by saying that I really like Coach T., and have no animosity directed his way by any means; I just want to hear what everyone else thinks.

Kind of a harsh thread title there Harm, I wouldn't say they suck but there's a lot of room for improvement, right now this team is very medicore.

Andrew Strait is the only consistent producer on the court, Dlouhy, Hasquet, & Martin's lack of being able to constantly play at a high level has been a factor.

The other thing IMO is that the Griz need a swingman to step up. So far that really hasn't happened, Swift, Sharp and Mayes have not shown their talents that we saw before the season started.

I don't think this team sucks and I think that it is talented enough to win the Big Sky it's still very early in conference play. The other factor is this team on the court seems much less disciplined than it has under Larry K. And lack of discipline + inconsistent play = a crappy season.

One thought is you could have entilted this thread differentlly. :naughty: Aside from that, the Griz simply have not found offensive or defensive consistency from the guard/wing positions. This is something we had in abundance last year with Criswell and Matthews. I hoped it would have developed by now, but clearly, it has not. I would like to see Swift and Mayes get some more time. At the very least, they would give the Griz better defensive presence from the wing positions. :twocents:

I haven't seen a game (listened to a few via the internet and have read most of the game statistical summaries), so my opinion isn't worth a hill of beans, but from my limited, outside perspective, I would say that UM's FG percentage (too many players going 1 for 6 or 4 for 12 for example) has left a lot to be desired and they have allowed other teams to just light them up from 3 point land...even a team that had sucked from 3 up to that game anyways (the two reasons for their poor record).

So from that take on the Griz, one would figure if they just knock down some more shots and lower their opponents killer 3 point shooting percentage... they would fare better in the W column.

Anyone agree, disagree?

Al McGuire the dearly departed Marquette Coach once said that team chemistry is even more important than talent in the grand scheme of the game. A less talented team with good team play that understands it roles on the court will beat pure talent on almost any day. Last years team had it and I am hopeful that this years addition will get it soon.

The talent is there, but getting the right ingredients on the floor at the same time is proving to take some time as we get our lumps. Coach T is a smart BB guy and understands it. Give him time, we will be fine. I am a Loooong time Griz BB follower and have seem some dreadful teams and talent, BUT I believe that we will find our way this year. It won't be easy but it will be worth the wait.

It is sad to see the sorry support for Montana BB though, home games with 50-60% empty seats. Hope this weekends Griz Cat game will bring out fans. These guys deserve our support, cannot ever be easy in the shadow of fb.

Stuart Mayes is the answer to the swingman. You cannot put
him in for 2mins and expect to see what he can do. My feeling
is that if given the chance he can do the job. I have heard that
the coaching staff tends to play players they like-Mayes isnt
included.

As for Mayes, I think when Dloughy's heart is not there, put Mayes in. Mayes is talented and has heart now that he is on the court. Makes one wonder how much he got into the doghouse?

Biggest problem is shots not falling despite of good ball movement, ie just a matter of time when shots start falling. Too many leaders by example that are not vocal, coaches know there are vocal leaders, but cannot force that role on any player. Team has to play hard defense and hustle for 40 minutes, not when they feel like it. Even more crucial being a team cannot hang a hat on shots falling every game. A lot of little things being the difference between L and W.

Coaches are confident all will fall into place soon.
