Meet the Bagman

Great read, thanks for posting.

Interesting quote:
"If we could take a vote for these kids to make a real salary every season, I would vote for it. $40,000 or something. Goes back to mama, buys them a car, lets them go live like normal people after they work their asses off for us. But let's be honest, that ain't gonna stop all this. If everyone gets $40,000, someone would still be trying to give 'em 40 extra on the side."

The arms race continues.

A college education now costs well over $100,000...In-state tuition at a STATE school.

Perspective for those who may be well removed from tuition realities right now.

Isn't in state tuition at UM about $7000/year?

I had a buddy who played at Nebraska and was a starter in the NFL for 10 years. He mowed lawns in the summer. He was always annoyed to have to stop the mower and pick up $100 bills hat pinned to the ground. He also detailed cars and his job was to vacuum the cars out before the other guys detailed the cars. At the end of the shift it was his job to empty the shop vac. There would always be a few hundred dollars in the bottom of the shop vac.

I have always wondered if there was a way we could pay our assistant coaches better? Why do we have to in sync with MSU on coach pay?

Yes.

Interesting article.
Is it illegal for the bagman to pay recruits/players?
Against NCAA rules and bad news for the school if caught, but illegal?

Just wonderin'

No it's not illegal to give someone money. Just a NCAA violation

Pay the damn kids. They sacrifice their bodies. Regardless the sport, their body takes a pounding and with concussions in all sports the risk is very high for ECT. These kids get their school paid for, but not much else. Many of them have no means to pay for a vehicle, insurance, food, clothes a phone etc. They can't work much throughout the year and without help from home they don't have much. Is it the end of the world? No. Will it make them work harder to have a better life? Maybe. The fat bastards at the top of the NCAA are making their money. A crime really!

Yes.

Poorly worded on my part. Total cost of attendance....

I guess I misunderstood the thread... how would you like to meet this "bagman"?

It's not the "fat bastards at the top of the NCAA" that would be paying the damn kids. Think about where the money has to come from, particularly in the case of a University in a serious hole enrollment wise. With Title IX, etc., not chump change.
