McNeese State and Incarnate Word to the WAC...

I had to look up where Four Letter Word University is located. San Antonio, where they are one of 17 colleges and Universities, in an area of 2.3 million people. FYI.

You're REALLY reaching to get to 10, let alone 17 in this city. Unless you're counting community college system as well. Otherwise, it's:

UTSA
Incarnate Word
Trinity
St. Mary's

The rest are just pretenders.

Somebody won't get it. Just wait.

I'm not quite sure what all this means. I don't think I would want UM in a conference like the WAC is apparently becoming, with teams from all across the country. But if teams like McNeese and, for gawd's sake, Incarnate Word, are looking at moving up, where do the Griz go? Mountain West is still where I would love to see the Griz, but I don't see that invite coming in my lifetime. So, what are the options/possibilities?

If the Pac expanded to 16, taking MWC schools it could happen fast. You never know.

I'd be just as happy as you. Eventually, the snobs in the PAC have to do something. They are losing so much ground to the other power conferences. They aren't going to pull in anyone from the other P5 leagues except maybe the B12, and I don't think that is even a for gone conclusion now. B12 has stabilized itself pretty well after losing UT and OU.

There are a couple schools in B12 that stick out, but NONE of them fit geographically with the P-12. That's a problem....hell, Utah and Colorado were a geographic reach....imagine trying to add Baylor or Tech or TCU or Kansas...

I know the fans don't make the decisions, but if you take how much most fans dislike having directional commuter schools in the BSC and multiply it by 10,000, that's about how a lot of PAC fans would feel about adding MWC schools. I even know a lot of people who are still pissed that they added the Arizona schools back in the day. They only view the 8 as the "real" members.

That said, who could they add from the MWC that would be a fit? People mention Fresno and SDSU, but I can't imagine they would entertain the thought of CSU schools. John Wooden would rise from the dead and put a stop to it. I agree though, the conference administration is going to have to get creative. Trust me, it would be refreshing to see an administration adapt to the times.

Oddly enough, and few people know it, the best fit from the MWC might well be the University of New Mexico. Academically, especially at the research and international-draw levels, it would not have to take a back seat to anyone in the current P-12. With one national lab in town (Sandia) and another within a couple hour drive (Los Alamos), they have some Federal government chops too.

They may be crap in football right now, but basketball and some other sports are quite competitive.

If that was believable, I would think neighbor to Dixie and SUU, NAU, would be jumping on board.

Add N. Colorado.... Please

If we are going to dis NCU, we had better man-up and beat them like the drum that we purport them to be. Just sayin'. When is the last time we were concerned about being able to beat them?

Well, we didn't play them in '20. We didn't play them in '19. We didn't play them in '18. We beat them like a drum in '17 in Missoula. And Kem and I were both at the debacle in Greeley in '16 (with Chad Chalich under center).

Nah.

The problem some Pac schools need to solve is to realize the revenue the last TV deal promised. Adding schools from the television footprint the Pac already pretty much owns adds zero to the SLICES of the pie. The Pac has to expand the footprint in the right direction… and Texas just shut that off.

The Pac was very open about this equation when Colorado was added (number of households in the minimum sized state was spelled out) and they were chasing Texas. Then it’s just a matter of whether Utah was part of the plan or the fallback when Texas decided against… more than a decade ago?
