Maulers Home opener

neither Tv station mentioned it and it was buried in small print in the Missoulian today, but tonight is the first Junior hockey game in the history of Missoula. The Rink looks great considering how it looked just a couple years ago. There's bleachers,a nice concrete concession stand/locker room and an upstairs viewing area. Come "check" it out. 7:30 Saturday night at the Fairgrounds versus the Butte Roughriders. Butte beat the Maulers 5-4 last Saturday in Butte, but Missoula beat Butte 10-2 in an exhibition earlier. Expect a lot of goals and a few fights, AND there's beer. 1,000+ is expected. See you there!

Great Game. The Maulers came out looking for revenge and after it was all said and done they won 7-4 in front of what looked to be a packed house.

Crap! I said "tonight " and then inadvertantly said "saturday". I meant Friday. Sorry if I confused anyone into not realizing the first game was Friday. They DO play Saturday (tonight) at 7:30 as well against Helena.

As mentioned it was an exciting 7-4 Maulers win. Although there were no fights, it was good, fast-paced, hard-hitting hockey and Monte was present (to tie this into the Griz). I'm impressed on the quality of play. It's low-level Juniors, but it was as good if not a little better quality than I expected/feared. It wasn't a completely packed house, but it was close. There had to be over 1000 people as expected. The east bleachers holds 800 and that was jam-packed + many more fans all around the rink. I'll be interested to see what the official attendance is/was. I hope everyone in Missoula takes in at least one Maulers game. So many people who diss hockey have never seen a game in person. I agree hockey can be very boring on tv, but live it is 1000x more exciting. If you like Griz football, you most-likely would enjoy a Maulers game. And no, I do NOT work for the Maulers.

They will also be home next Thursday against Bozeman. All games are at 7:30.

The Missoulian "reporter" had never been in the GIR in his life before that night. I have been in there 100's of times. Who's opinion on the attendance do YOU trust?

MY sources say opening night the attendance was about 1200, and Saturday night was 800-900. The building code maximum is 2000 people, so it will never be over 2000. The Missoulian guy is clueless, or did I already say that?

It doesn't come from the Missoulian or has anything to do with them. Its the staff of the Maulers who say what the attendance is on Pointstreak usually the scorekeeper for the game.
