Matt Troxel?

As you probably remember, Matt Troxel had a brief return to Montana last year (about 3 months, maybe?) as a wide receiver's coach and passing game coordinator until Rob Phenecie lured him back to Pocatello to be ISU's OC. Troxel was very complimentary towards Rob in the process, maybe indicating that things between Troxel and Stitt just didn't click. Anyway, has anybody heard if Matt Troxel is being considered for the OC role here, or if there's any mutual interest between he and Hauck?

Have not heard one way or the other but he’d be my choice. Troxel might not want to move his family so soon again is the only hurdle I foresee there.

I doubt that Bobby would hire Troxel as OC. Bobby knows him, but hasn't worked with him as an assistant, to my knowledge. Bobby likely has other choices and preferences.

My impression was that Troxel went back to ISU because of the good opportunity there, not because he didn't get along with Stitt (but maybe that was a factor too). Troxel went to be the OC/QB coach, a bigger job than he had at UM. In looking at the ISU coach roster, it doesn't look like they had a true receiver coach. Seems odd. If Ferriter doesn't stay on at UM, I wonder if there would be an opportunity back at ISU.

Bobby was very complimentary of Matt when Matt came to Missoula. He said something like "Bobby Hauck will some day work for Matt Troxel"

Troxel was a grad assistant under Bobby at UNLV. He also did some player coaching under Bobby when he suffered injuries ending the career. So there is some familiarity as a coach.

This was at a signing day event at the Doubltree about 10 years ago.....
Two other topics from that event were Smurf week and "State", ((they)) havn't earned the right to have Montana in their name.....

Don't know, don't care Bobby probably has a handle on his staff to be and we will know when he wants us to...

From Sample during the 2016 season before Troxel came to Montana the following spring

“He’s an impressive guy in terms of football knowledge,” Hauck said of his former player and graduate assistant.

It didn’t work out for Troxel as a player at Montana. An exciting slot receiver who draws comparisons from Ferriter to Louie-McGee, Troxel was often injured. Hauck remembers the receiver trying to get onto the field, but one injury after another kept Troxel from displaying the game-changing plays he so often demonstrated in high school. He played in 10 games and caught 14 passes in 2005 but managed just one catch in five games in 2006 and just four in five games in 2007.

When he finally realized the damage to his body was no longer worth it, he asked Hauck if he could become a student assistant.

“He said he wanted to coach,” said Hauck, now the special teams coordinator and associate head coach at San Diego State. “Obviously he’s been awfully good at it.”
