Matt Dlouhy = Next years Conference MVP

Explosive 1

Well-known member
Matt proved today that he is capable of playing with the "big boys". He proved that he was the best athlete in the Big Sky today.

If Matt comes into the next season with a desire to be the best, he will be. HE IS THE MOST GIFTED PLAYER ON THE GRIZZLIES! With Matt it comes down to if he wants it or not. He's kind of a head case, but if he realizes that the rest of the Big Sky isn't on his athletic level he will be the MVP next year.

Good job Griz, fun game to watch.

P.S.

Martin did a great job today.

Martin, Strait, and Dlouhy will form the nucleus of a mini dynasty that will repair the griz basketball program. But I think Dlouhy does not need to build his body as some have speculated. However, I would like to see him develop his ball skills. He looks a little unsteady when he's making a cut with the ball. The only thing scarier than seeing Dlouhy running ungaurded to the rim is seeing him on a fast break with the ball under control. Strait ought to work on his free throws. Good greif! And Martin will have to mold his temper into a momentum winner. Other than that, I'm excited for the future of griz men's basketball.

If Martin set/tied a record it was broken/tied quickly, I think it was a guy from Winthrop today had 6 treys

In his post-game interview, Dlouhy said that the whole team needs to hit the weight room hard in the off season.

Did his 2 airballs set a record too? :D

no but I heard the 8 or 10 bricks in a row that the rats threw up down the stretch in the BSC tourney may have.

can you confirm?

:P :P :P

ahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahhahaaaaaaaaaa!

Go Griz

Hey, I love Dlouhy as much as anyone, but no way was he the most atheltic player in the Big Sky this year. Jameel? Pugh of Sac State was. He was rated by Sports Illustrated as the 62nd or so greatest dunker of ALL-TIME, all levels, all players. He won the UMass dunk contest both years he was there. Dlouhy need to put on about 15-20 pounds so he can bang inside more. He is a perimeter player who can dunk if wide-open. Dlouhy said several players need to hit the weight-room in the off-season in order to hang with the big boys of D-1 hoops.

I agree Zirg. I think that Pugh is a much better athlete than Dhouly. Not to take anything away from Dhouly.

If you are talking best pure athlete you have to throw in Henry Beckering from EWU who is won national dunk contests.

Go to Google and type in Henry Beckering and you can see some of his slams.

This makes my top ten list of inane listings. Christ, is anything safe from SI's ratings? I want to go back to the days where you couldn't touch the rim anyways.

Have you ever seen that show 'Basketball Street' on ESPN? There is always this same gym full of idiots who piss their pants after some NBA washout does a 720 jam with a midgit in his pants or something.

I think Matt Dlouhy is a good player. He'll come along and be a huge part of the team next year. Conference MVP though....that might be stretching it. He'd have to average 18-20 points/game and since he's a guard they would expect some assists out of him too. Dunks are fun, I agree, but they're worth 2 points just like any other shot inside the 3-point line. His defense could still be improved as well. He does great at getting steals when we throw our press on, but he gets beat in the half-court set. Matt also has two more years to develop and get better though.

I would be pretty excited if he did improve and win MVP though, since that would mean that the Griz won the Big Sky Conference!

I can give examples of two great dunkers like Henry. Joey Johnson (little brother of Celtic Dennis Johnson) who played for ASU in the late 80's. Reported to have a 54" vertical, too bad he didn't have anything else to go with it. Michael Wilson from Memphis St. in the 90's. Reported 60" vertical, he plays for the Globetrotters now...their dunking novelty. I did see him set a reported Guinees record dunking on an 11 ft rim during an exhibition at the 2000 Final Four. At 6'6" (minimum reach of 8') and a 60" vertical you'd think he could go higher. I've seen Henry play a couple of times, he's got hops...it will be interesting to see if he developes the rest of his game. Speaking of great dunkers, what ever became of Harold Minor (aka baby Jordan), the Bostik kid that played for Cincy a few years ago.

I've seen that Globetrotter dunk, he has hops, but not a 60 inch vertical. It was something close to 50 maybe, which is still stretching it.

First off that hoop was 12' high not 11' and you are out of your mind about 54" vertical and just plain dumb with the 60" vert. At 6'6" and a 5 foot vertical jump plus add the extra inches to that vert with a running start he could stick his whole torso into a 11' foot rim. Nice try but come back when you have something factual to say. Dlouhy and Pugh are both great leapers and Explosive 1 is a kiss ass idiot. End of Thread!!
