OGDEN, Utah (January 18, 2016) – Montana senior, Martin Breunig was named the Big Sky Conference men's basketball Player of the Week after leading the Grizzlies to two conference road wins last week. Breunig averaged 24.5 points and 10 rebounds in Montana's wins over Northern Colorado and North Dakota.

Breunig, a native of Leverkusen, Germany, scored a game-high 22 points and pulled down eight rebounds in the Grizzlies' 73-66 win at Northern Colorado last Thursday. The senior hit 8-of-11 from the field and 6-of-8 from the free-throw line in the win.

The Montana forward followed Thursday's performance with 27 points and 12 rebounds in the Grizzlies' 65-61 win at North Dakota on Saturday. Saturday's double-double was Breunig's seventh of the season. His 27 points came on 12-of-16 shooting from the field and 3-of-4 from the charity stripe. His 12 boards were split evenly on the offensive and defensive side of the court.

Breunig, last season's Big Sky Newcomer of the Year and a preseason All-Big Sky selection this season, is fifth in the conference in scoring with 18.2 points per game. He is second in the conference in rebounding with 9.3 boards a game and 109 total rebounds.

This is Breunig's second-career Big Sky Conference weekly honor and his first of the 2015-16 season.

Others Nominated: Venky Jois – Eastern Washington; Victor Sanders – Idaho; Casey Oliverson – Southern Utah; Tyler Hall – Montana State; Ako Kaluna – Northern Arizona; Quinton Hooker – North Dakota; Joel Bolomboy – Weber State; Dallas Anglin – Northern Colorado; Ethan Telfair – Idaho State; Justin Strings – Sacramento State; Isaiah Pineiro – Portland State

Actually, this is an incredible accomplishment that reflects brightly on the coach, his staff, the team and the individuals who earned the awards. Highest kudos to the Grizzlies for this recognition!

Honestly what I think is the coolest about that is the fact that in three straight weeks three different players earned the award. That speaks well of a solid team. Obviously this last weekend we relied heavily on MB, but this team has some special players!

Thought for sure someone would post a statistical analysis comparing Breunig with Bolomboy...
Just because I was curious I looked yesterday and over the weekend he averaged 20.5 ppg with 12 rpg. Averaging 18.2 and 13.6 on the year. Martin is averaging 18.2 and 9.3. They both are definitely absolute beasts.

We have also had two POW's this year...and our 2 are both sophomores...not to take anything away from your guys who definitely deserved the honors, just to inform you that there are more than 2 teams in the BSC...

Look, I don't mean to disparage your team. You've got some nice players. But Sac is 4 1/2 games behind Montana after playing five games, and lost to the two top teams by a combined 30 points.

And yes, to be fair, there really are only two teams that matter in the BSC. And sadly, it's been that way for many, many years.

I believe that UM has had 3 different POTW....and it might be the last 3 in a row....Gfeller, Wright, Breunig
