Marquin Russell

The biggest upside we have right now is that we can tell potential big DB recruits that there's a good chance they can start for four years, and that we just put a four-year starter in the NFL.

As sad and funny as the first part is, I'd bet most, if not all DB recruits considering UM vs. lower FBS schools would jump at that chance vs. sitting on the bench for three years before playing.

That could be what swayed him. :twocents:

Apparently we were the best dumptser fire option on the table...

UM >> Army, UNLV or Idaho

We aren't a dumpster fire and Army isn't either. Big props to the coaches who recruited Russell. Whenever you can beat 1A programs for a recruit at a position of need that is a big win. UM has a lot to offer any student-athlete and our football program will be fine despite what many of you chickenlittles are bitchin' about. Good to see us get some more great Washington talent!

I have to disagree. I think the team is in good shape and I believe they will do well next because we are loaded with talent, but I don't think the "football program" will be fine until we get some stability in the coaching staff. I think we are four to five years away from a solid football program.

I am glad to see new talent coming to the program and I hope we are able to continue to recruit good people.

this could be a bigger factor than we we like to admit,,,regarding marquin, i liked the way he carries himself on the field, giving the ball the the official etc...and he must be bright in order to be considered by army.....unlv, not so much,,ha! he could be a the real deal...welcome marquin to the griz family...

I'm happy to have a kid from Lakes coming to play for the Griz. Lakes has been a consistently strong 3A program in Washington for at least the last 10 years, likely longer; I would guess second in success only to Bellevue. Of course the Griz have a solid connection with Bellevue.

If I'm reading it correctly, in the 11 December 2012 USA Today, Section C, Page 9C, there is a Prep (High School) Football (National) Ranking and it has Bellevue, Wash. rated No. 3 (State 3A Champion this year). Another high school team of note was #23 Skyline, Sammamish, Wash. that was the 4A State Champion this year.
An interesting item is that there is a team in Las Vegas, Nevada, Bishop Gorman, rated #9. Next ratings are 18 Dec 2012 since they are still playing football in California, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Florida and Texas.

As of last year, Drew Millers dad was still the head coach there and I am fairly sure Drew was an assistant for him.
No, Drew was not an assistant. And yes his dad is still the head coach and will be until he decides he doesn't want to be anymore. Marquin is a real good catch for the Griz and will do a great job!

A friend of mine win Seattle said Russell is not only a stud, but a HIGH CHARACTER kid. Great in the classroom, the community and on the football field. He also said there is a possibility UW will recruit over the top of Sammie Long, and he could still wind up as part of UM's class.

Funny thing was my ISU (where Drew was at before) connection who told me that said that Lakes High School had more D1 talent than they had in recent memory. The guy obviously was very high on Sammy Long, and that was early in the fall. He knew that but didn't get Drew's location correct.

Thanks for the correction.

I would say your friend was dead on on the D1 talent level at Lakes although Bellevue might have more you would have to look at Scout.com or Maxpreps. Lakes actually has two senior qb's this year and BOTH are going to college to play football as qb's. How's that for talent.
