Mariners Mike Hargrove resigns

Seattle Mariner's Mike Hargrove resigned as Manager today due to lack of passion, or fading passion as he called it.

Mariners are on a 7 game winning streak and if they win today, will have swept 3 game series with the AL east's top 2 teams this week, Boston and Toronto.

Ichiro wanted him gone, so he's gone - simple as that.

You can't really pin any of the losses on Mac - Guillen would have made the same bone headed play in the OF last night no matter who was managing and Fierebend would have stunk just as bad no matter who was sitting in the dugout. Ibanez, Johjima and Sexson would all still be nursing injuries and the bench would still be terrible.

Can the M's catch the Angels? Maybe, maybe not. Can they win the wild card? Maybe, maybe not. But I had this team pegged for 83 wins this year, so they are well ahead of my projections. I'm enjoying watching the M's play for the first time in years.

Just have to hope that Bavasi isn't far behind Hargrove.

A lot of Ms fans were just looking forward to the possibility of being over .500 this year. Now the Ms could slip and go south real quickly but if they keep playing like they do they'll finish with a winning record for the first time since 2002 I think, and hopefully they can make some off-season moves to add a power hitter and a legit #1 starting pitcher as Felix is just too unpredictable.

2 1/2 games out of first in the West; 1 1/2 games out of the wild card at the break. This, with a shaky starting rotation, some shaky defense, sub par first halves by two of the club's run producers (Sexson and Ibanez) and one of the worst DH's in the league - Vidro.

I'll take it. Now call up Jones to man left field, DH Ibanez, platoon Sexson/Brousard a bit more and I'll start getting real excited.

Miracle of miracles - Hargrove "resigns" from the M's and almost immediately Ichiro "re-signs" with the M's.

Ichiro is worth it just for the bizarre, zen-like Ichi-quotes.
