Mariners are a game over .500!

It was a struggle at times, but the Mariners are a game over .500 & just 2 games behind Oakland! Things seem to be looking good. Both Beltre & Sexson seem to have their bats going. I just hope the starting pitching improves. Quite frankly, the starting pitching scares me! Let's hope the M's complete the sweep over Arizona, then it is back Seattle. I hope the momentum continues & Sodo Mojo is back & refuse to lose is back!

What a difference it has made moving Beltre to the two spot. Just unbelievable. Everyone was ready to write him off as bust (myself definitely included) but it sure is good to see him come around. Another great thing is that even though he wasn't hitting earlier this year, he has played rock solid defense throughout. There are several legitimate All-star caliber players on this team:

Lopez
Ichiro
Ibanez (on pace for 30+, 120+)
Putz
I would include Yuni and Kenji, but some might not

Gil Meche tonight for the sweep. Oh, and if we win, I am changing my sig line

:tounge:

Call me crazy, and I may very well regret this statement in a month or a week or even 3 days, but I am really, really starting to like this club. I know when I watch them now, I have more of the feeling I had in 2001 when I just expected them to win, as opposed to last year or early this year when I expected them to do nothing.

Ibby has 26 RBIs in JUNE!! He's been clutch all year. You know Beltre's going well because he's hitting the ball hard to right. Yuni has played stellar D and is pushing .290. Jojo is pushing .300. Ichiro is well, Ichiro. Lopez has been spectacular. Putz has been lights-out. Moyer seems to be back to his 2001 ways. All in all, it's been very good. I really hope the alarm clock doesn't go off anytime soon.....

Still, the best thing I've seen all year, though? Lopez's huge smile during the bottom of the ninth inning last night during the game. I can't REMEMBER the last time I saw the M's having fun during a ballgame. THAT was sweeeeet.

Yes, this has been a fun run and I hope that the momentum continues. We have to be realistic, though. The M's got hot when the schedule got easy. In June, they had series against KC, Mn, both LA teams, San Fran, San Diego, and Arizona.

Gag.

Minnesota is playing better but the rest of those teams are dogs. It's almost a shame that some team has to come out of the NL West - there isn't a team there that deserves to play in the post season. Again.

In July the M's play series against Detroit, Toronto (home and away), the Yankees, Boston, and Cleveland. Oof. I will be surprised if the team is still at .500 by the end of July. Very, pleasantly surprised.

We'll see how Beltre reacts to seeing all the nasty breaking stuff that the AL teams can throw out there. Will he be able to lay off those nasty sliders, knuckle curves and sinking fastballs? I hope so - this team stinks when he isn't hitting.

Color me a cynic but I'm still not a believer in this team. Back-to-back seasons of futility will do that, I guess. I pegged them as a .500 team at the beginning of the year and I'm sticking with it.

It is true that tougher challenges are ahead. In April & May they sucked, in June they were awesome, with July, August, September & October yet to go. They also still have to beat Oakland & Texas. I just have been encouraged by their recent play. Hope springs eternal, eh? If all else fails, I have Griz football to look forward to. :thumb:

I'm trying not to get too excited but this team is making it pretty damn hard. Has Gil Meche finally figured it out? He's always had Halladay-type stuff but has also had a head full of rocks. A moving mid-90's heater, a curve ball from hell, plus a decent change and slider? Get out. If he's really put it together, the M's have their #2 starter. Stick Moyer in between he and Felix in a short five game series and this team matches up very well with any team in the league. The BoSox and Detroit included.

With the Perez move today bolstering the bench and the pending arrival of my boy Snelling at DH, dare I think that this team is one middle of the rotation starter away from serious, serious contention? Am I getting my hopes up only to watch them get dashed like a ship on a reef? Should I plan a late summer trip to Safeco?

The next three weeks will answer all of that.

GrizBiz....make a late summer trip. ive already got my tix for the set with the Yanks...we could use some extra boo birds when ARod steps up to the plate!!!

Maybe by that time John Smoltz will be wearing pinstripes!!!

Hope your Seahawks have a better year than what they had last year!!
