Mariner minor league teams...

Man, the Seattle area minor league teams are stacked right now. Wish I could get to Tacoma or Everett for a game.

Tacoma's offense has future MLB every day players in Snelling, Clement, Asdrubal, Jones, Choo, Johnson and LaHair. The role players are mostly good, too - 'lil Garciapara, Bohn, Dobbs could all be bench players in the bigs. The pitchers include Livingston, Cruceta, Nageotte and Atchison. What a team.

Everett's team is an interesting mix of great players and bad ones. The outfield is supposed to be amazing - this kid Kou-hui Lo from Taiwan is supposed to be great, with Halman, Greterol and Dickey not far behind. The catcher Jair Fernandez is said to have Snelling/Lopez type bat speed and will be splitting time with 6th round draft pick Adam Moore - a big, power hitter from Texas.

The pitching should be exciting, too. Doug Fister struck out 9 batters, no hits, no walks in five innings in his first start and isn't supposed to be the best on the team. He's 6'8", so that's got to be scary. Souza is reportedly the best starter on the team but I'm curious what Uhlmansiek will do. The M's drafted him late in the 2004 draft, even though he had blown out his elbow and needed Tommy John surgery. Before the injury, he was projected as a second round draft pick. If he recovers like Soriano and not like Foppert, he should shoot through the system. This Bibbens-Dirkx guy is supposed to have some really weird, side arm delivery that I imagine will kill those low-A ball hitters.

I guess the moral is, catch either of these teams if you get the chance in the next few weeks. They look like fun, fun teams.
