watched the Chicago preseason game last night and Mariani barely played at all. Does this the end of the trip with Da Bears

I suppose it could be a bad sign, but it could also be a good sign. Many times in pre-season, veterans or people likely to be on roster, don't play much because the coaches are trying to get looks at the other guys, including guys competing for positions on the roster, those on the bubble, and others at the bottom of the current larger roster.

From the Bears depth chart. And also listed at 4th WR

POS First String Second String Third String Other
P Pat O'Donnell
K Robbie Gould
LS Thomas Gafford Rick Lovato
H Pat O'Donnell
KR Marc Mariani Senorise Perry
PR Marc Mariani Eddie Royal

For what it's worth:

"Marc Mariani broke a big punt return early in the second quarter, but it was brought back after Demontre Hurst was flagged for a block in the back. Should anyone coached by Joe DeCamillis still be around?"

Steve Mariucci from the NFL Network mentioned today that Marc may get a shot now that the Bears lost their wr draft pick to a long term shin injury.

Their #1 pick at WR is out at least 6 weeks and maybe for the year with a stress fracture. Maybe bad news for the Bears, but it's got to help Mariani.

I attended a few games at Arrowhead when I lived in Omaha. Hands down by far the best football experience of my life. The tailgating and fans are terrific. BBQ snacks and meals everywhere for tailgating. I'd put tailgating at a Chief's game on any bucket list for a sports fan.

INDIANAPOLIS – After struggling on special teams the past two seasons, the Bears excelled in that crucial aspect of the game in Saturday night's 23-11 preseason win over the Colts.

WR/KR Marc Mariani lines up against the Colts in Saturday's win.
Robbie Gould's field goals of 50, 38 and 25 yards on three straight first-half possessions gave the Bears a 9-8 lead. More impressively, the three kicks were all set up by special teams plays—Marc Mariani punt returns of 29 and 22 yards and Senorise Perry's 31-yard kickoff return.

The returns enabled the Bears to start their possessions at their own 49, 37 and 42.

Mariani also made a heads-up play on the opening kickoff. As the ball bounced toward the sideline, he purposely stepped out of bounds with his right foot and then fielded the kick. Because Mariani was not in the field of play, the kickoff was ruled out of bounds and the Bears started the game at the 40.

Emma: 5 Bears Preseason Observations

"5.) Here’s To Mariani
The Bears’ special teams have been a disaster the past two seasons. Without Dave Toub leading the unit, there have been countless problems. But one of the other things missing for Chicago has been an explosive return game. Maybe Marc Mariani can change that.

“Marc had some good returns, stepped in there,” Bears quarterback Jay Cutler said. “Did a nice job for us.”
Mariani appears to have the Bears’ returner role locked down, and he impressed once again on Saturday with some big runs. Mariani is a speedster with quick feet and the ability to improvise in his returns. It would take somebody special to top Devin Hester, but all the Bears can ask is for a serviceable returner. They may have that in Mariani."

Why is Mariani so under rated as returner, and why is he not used as a slot WR more often? I am confident he would be a very consistent and good slot WR, with the playing time.

Mariani just got a great shoutout after that 19 yard catch from Cutler. Not sure who the announcers are but they had stats at their finger tips and gave some love to Marc and the Griz!
