Montana’s Morales Earns Fourth Player of the Week Award

The Big Sky Conference announces the Women’s Basketball Player of the Week award for games played Dec. 18 - 25. Montana’s Mandy Morales earned the honor for the fourth time this season.

The Lady Griz beat Santa Clara 98-72 on the road last Wednesday. Morales, a sophomore guard, scored a career-high 35 points in Montana’s only game of the week. She recorded 27 points in the second half alone to lead the Lady Griz to their 10th win of the season (10-1).

Morales put on a record-breaking performance from the free-throw line as well. She went a dazzling 18-for-18 on the night, 14-for-14 in the second half, to match her own conference and school record for free throws made in a single game. Morales first set that record last year on Dec. 16 against Miami. Against Santa Clara, she shot 1.000 percent from the line and became the first Big Sky player to make all 18 free throws in one game.

The native of Billings, Mont. also added seven rebounds and a team-high three assists. Morales leads the Big Sky this season in points per game with 22.3 and assists per game with 6.09.
