Loyola Football Game

Fairfield vs Manhatten might have been the game to determine 2nd place. Malta looks real tough. Don't put a whole lot of stock in a close game with Manhatten because those 3 teams are the top of class B this year. King in Malta is making his way up the all time win chart in Montana football. Over 200 now I think. What Les Meyer has done in Fairfield is nothing short of a miracle. He has made a basketball school also a football school. He has also done it at the smallest class B school enrollment wise in the state. The mentality that has been ingrained in those kids to compete and compete early (agewise) is amazing.

I am not sure they get past Malta this year, but they could.

What he has done is impressive, but the following Class B schools are equal to or smaller than Fairfield according to the MHSA. The new numbers for this year are not out yet though so I suppose its possible that a couple of those schools have a bigger enrollment as of right now.
Fairfield 128
Broadus 128
Plentywood 126
Lame Deer 125
Baker 119
Lodge Grass 111

Yeah, after I pressed submit, I thought I probably could have checked or written ONE of the smallest enrollments, but I was lazy. Pretty damn impressive what they do there. Girls basketball is always competing for a state title it seems as well. And I am a Fort Benton grad. Fairfield was a rival and we hated them. Have to respect what they do though.

Baker and Plentywood seem pretty damn competitive for their enrollment as well.

I agree with everything you're saying here. King from Malta is a great coach, he is kinda lucky that he gets kids from Whitewater, Saco, etc, but man....he is a good coach. They always have some big, tough 'ol bastards up there. Les Meyer is a very good coach too, obviously. Don't forget Dale McQueary though, the year before he came to Manhattan they either went winless or only won 1 game, then he came and they made it to the playoffs. Very under-rated coach in this state.

Off-topic....

to say thanks... I love these type threads.

Info in threads like these simply CANNOT be googled or bing'd.

Why doesn't Loyola play Class A ball? I know their enrollment qualifies them as a B school, but don't the other Catholic schools in the state play up one level (Butte, Billings)?

I believe Butte Central stays at A to keep the rivalry game with Butte.

as in what should have been done w/Penn State,

The EGRIZ cops need to police this thread .... and MOVE it

it has NOTHING to do with FCS football, nor Griz.

Has nothing to do w/fans cheering for their fave prep teams... just taking some action that Penn State didn't...

fyi, there NO LONGER is a Butte Central/Butte High fb game, just basketball..

BTM Central has a Class B enrollment, I believe... don't know about Blgs Cent.

Well Malta just beat Ronan. 31 - 27. Ronan actually scored a TD with 2 minutes left but the officials thought he was out of bounds. Pretty poor officiating in Malta, not that that is anything new. It was pretty awful when I played there as well as later when I coached against them their. That was my fear In playing there. That the officials would take the game out of the kids' hands. Lots of pretty bogus calls all going against Ronan. If this is the best Malta has, then Fairfield will roll them.

I went to the Loyola-Fairfield game. Fairfield looks tough. They announced that their enrollment this year is 112 and they say that makes them the smallest Class B in the state.
