Hey, how about big egriz applause for Lider? The kid loses his place kicking job and reinvents himself as a fine punter just when we needed it. Kudus to Sullivan too. Now let's get the long snapping tuned up a bit.

Yes, Kudos to Lider as a punter. He's pretty good. However, when he's kicking from the 40 he needs to stop kicking into the end zone. Kudos to Sullivan too. Very good on kickoffs. But he missed a very short FG and an extra point today. With either of those kicks, UM would not have had to drive and make a FG. Greenberg has not missed from inside 40 this year. The one extra point was a bad snap and bad hold. Personally, I don't think Sullivan is the answer.

What's the discussion? Sullivan is our place kicker; period.TrueGriz said:PlayerRep said:Buttegrizzle said:Hey, how about big egriz applause for Lider? Until yesterday, Sullivan never missed from within 40 yards. So now you write him off because of that one field goal, and go with Greenberg who hasn't been able to make a field goal beyond 30 yards? Sullivan can at least make them from 37 yards. Or is it that you think neither of them are the answer?
I think we have to wait until there is more data to make that determination. Neither kicker has had very many attempts to really determine who we can trust. Green attempted only 4 field goals making 2. Sullivan attempted only 3, missing one. Was that missed one kicked from the middle of the field? Because those short field goals when you kick from the left side or right side can be difficult. The closer you are to the goal line, the more important it is to have the ball right in the middle of the field. ( I was out of town and didn't watch the game, and radio reception was poor).
Shaw's average for 24 kicks is 42.8 with only one touchback so his net punting average is damn good (41.9 x-runbacks). But he has the one block with a slow delivery and further risk. Lider's average is 37.4 for 12 punts with 3 touchbacks, so his net punting average is not so hot (32.4 x-runbacks) In addition to a quicker delivery, Lider is somewhat capable of making a tackle if necessary. Someone would have to run into Shaw.mtgrizrule said:Kudos to Lider. I am a lot more relieved in our punting when Shaw is done. It looks to me Lider will be a great full time replacement after Shaw graduates.
