LGriz v. Weber St.

A gritty come-from-behind win for the Lady Griz after trailing by 15 midway through the third and 11 at the start of the fourth before outscoring Weber State 20-7.

Weber State has been confusing, they seem to play the teams at the top of the league competetively yet find ways to lose to teams at the bottom. Did a good job of protecting the ball but lost the battle on the boards and the offense looked out of sync for much of the game as we weren’t hitting our shots.

Good points - we shot only 20% from 3-pt range yet only 5 turnovers. Proud of how they battled back! Not many teams would have fought on like that; it's a good lesson for all!

Ladies showed a LOT of grit, heart and moxie in fighting back to pull this one out. And...Sophia has ice in her veins and the guts of a cat burglar! :thumb: :D

Where were Dani Bartsch and Willa Albrecht?

Willa has a big knee brace on with a noticeable limp, Bartsch was on the bench.

Correct that, looks like the brace was off. I think Willa was in street clothes last night. If you watch the highlight on Go Griz I am pretty sure she is the one walking up at the end after Sophie made the shot.

While Weber has won only 4 conference games, and is 3d to the last in the conference, the LG had a great comeback win and are now alone in 4th place. That was a gritty and amazing comeback, which says a lot about the team. Now they have to beat some of the top teams.

The GrizWBB game-by-game improvement under new H.C. Brian Holsinger has been steady and easy to spot. Montana's defensive intensity, in particular, is getting nicely honed, with only minor improvements on over-playing (WSU got several 3rd quarter buckets on back-door options) now the issue. There is a bit of a red flag though: field goal shooting percentage. Montana was clearly the dominant team in most areas (they did get out-rebounded by 4), but a horrendous shooting third quarter (similar to their third quarter collapse vs. the Bobcats) really hurt in a game they could have won by 10-12 pts. Despite the win, Montana's overall combined field shooting percentage was 36.4% of mostly open shots. That won't win many games going forward.

I'm certainly not trying to be a naysayer here; I'm a pretty rabid Montana WBB fan. It normally takes nearly a full season for a team to adjust to a new coach (which can be seen in other Big Sky teams with new coaches). Most areas are looking good (rebounding, assists, turnovers), but Montana will need to be more consistently better shooting from the field, and get a road win or two, to finish in the Big Sky top 5 (and a first round bye) going into the post season. Montana's covid-wracked schedule ahead (five games over the next 9 days) looks pretty brutal. Here's hoping this team can stay in the fray. Go GrizWBB.

While the new coach has presumably had an influence, my view is that the Lady Griz are seeing the benefit of all of its returners, especially the Big 3 (and probably also Morris-Mills), being a year older and healthy, and the addition of 3 new players, Fatkin and the 2 frosh. Weigh the addition of the 3 players and the returners being a year older, with the loss of Schoening and Thurman, who contributed a total of 10.8 points last year. The Lady Griz have better, probably much better, players this year. The three new players are contributing 24 points. Compare 10.8 to 24. The Lady Griz have beaten all of the bottom teams in the conference. Now, we'll see if they can parlay that and their improvement into beating the top teams.

Yes! The shooting, is just plainly inconsistent, if not bad! I mean a lot of shots look like bricks. Any of you coaches/advisors/opinionators out there have any experience, or opinions about playing like this, how to help improve this problem? Inherently, I believe we have some excellent athletes, and "good shooters", but it is just not happening...why? My best guess is of course practice, particularly pressure shooting? We got lucky with this last game, really Stiles was only 3/11 for the game...it was Vegas at best.
