Watched the Lady Griz scrimmage today. Witnessed some awesome possibilities and potential, but also some question marks.
Awesome possibilities:
Dana Conway - IMHO, She will be one awesome 2 guard. Can play the point and did as backup to Michela Schmitz, but she has such a quick deadly 3 point shot, that it would be more effective to use her at the 2 guard.
Johanna Clossen - Because it looks like Selvig could be starting both Baird and Tyler, Clossen looks like the best player to replace either of those players, athletic and can shoot the ball quite well.
Mandy Morales - Looked good in her first scrimmage but we know she will not play this year. Just mentioning her to increase the excitement for next year when she is available.
Okay, I will now mention what I expected to be better.
Holly Tyler: Okay, she scored 19 points. So, why am I listing her as expecting her to be better? Because she is a senior and the go to player. She shot terrible in the first half. She should have scored over 30 points easily if she made some of the shots under the basket.

I think the above stats are correct. If not, sorry. Still they are close and add up
Didn't keep track of turnovers or missed shots. If I did, it would not be good. But, this is just an early season scrimmage before any real game has been played. This scrimmage is about what I expected.
I do believe the Lady Griz will have more problems at point guard this year than the last two years.
The players that have seen time at point guard are:
Lindsay Monaco who started and played point guard exclusively.
Laura Cote played some.
Michela Schmitz played exclusively at point guard and started both halves for whites.
Dana Conway played quite a bit and looked good but better at 2 guard.
As mentioned above, It looks like Baird and Tyler could both start. At least, I expect them both to be in at the same time more often this year.
Dana Conway, Clossen, Sara Gale, Amy Brooks will see a lot of time playing this season.
Tamara Jo Guardipee (who seems to have some good moves but can't finish) and Hilary Tanneberg will likely redshirt along with Deshazer, and Morales unless one or both do not want to red shirt. Selvig never forces anybody to redshirt. But will he redshirt a player that truly wants to be redshirted even if the Lady Griz desparately need her?
Lady Griz are deep at the 2 guard, lean at the point guard. Luckily, there is a pre-season for developing the depth required for conference and post season play.
I think the Lady Griz will be favored to win the Big Sky Conference this year again.
