Leon Burtnett - safeties coach

Now the Texas recruits will know first hand about UM and won't make the mistake of signing with state college because they have the M on their helmets. :lol: :lol:

Maybe at this stage in his life (68 years old) he doesn't want the grind and headache of being a coordinator; AHC, etc. Sometimes just getting back into the game and sharing one's knowledge (being a mentor) in a beautiful part of the country is a reward for a long, distinguished career. He obviously didn't accept the position because of the pay. Beers did the same thing, I believe.

Roughly 40 years of coaching experience: NFL experience and Big 10 head coach, offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator, position coach, etc.--the Griz got a bargain and then some. I think the past coaching ties with Pflugrad and Rosenbach played into his decision as well. I think Burtnett will blend well with the younger coaches (and players too, who will respect his football knowledge) and be a positive impact. For me, I'll stick to the old "don't look a gift horse in the mouth" adage and look forward to good things on the field.
 
With coach Burtnett on our staff, we may not miss out on some players (reccruits.) One Texas running back we might have snagged this past season was long gone.....In any event sneaky Pflu has come up with a great "get" in Burtnett!

We have to be glad we have a good head coach like Pflu! Gossip has it we may be getting some more players (transfers) for additional back-up and immediate help...... I can't wait for 2012!
