Larry Stranahan

Stranny lives in Spokane and teaches at a high school there. He has not coached football for quite some time, but when he was, his defense was always one of the toughest and most prepared in the GSL.
 
I was saddened to learn after reading a prep football roundup column in the Spokesman Review that Coach Larry "Stranny" Stranahan recently passed away.http://www.spokesman.com/stories/2012/aug/16/prep-writer-lee-visits-every-gsl-football-c/

Stranny was a great coach, teacher, and mentor. He never let me stop working to be the best I could be. He knew how to motivate on the field and most importantly he knew when you might need a little lift up in life. I will greatly miss coach Stranny and that damn hat he always wore. Stranny coached my brothers and I for the better part of 10 years. We all share the same admiration and respect for him. I know he died doing what he loves and that's all that matters.

When I grew up in Missoula, Larry was my neighbor. He was older, and bigger, and we looked up to him. Their yard was part of our playground, and they were good neighbors.
 
My senior year at Hellgate was when Coach Stranahan first came to coach there. He replaced Vince Zimmer who also passed away several years ago. Sad, they will both be missed.
 
Had Mr. Stranahan as a science teacher my 7th grade year at CR Anderson in Helena. He was also my wrestling coach for one year. I think he only taught at CR that one year, 1984. His wife is a sister of one of my buddies step-dad Bob Vogel who he played football with at Sentinal. Hell of a guy and a good teacher.

on a side note, there just HAS to be limitations on advertisements on the internet. can't people simply read an obit to honor someones life without having a huge car ad cover the screen?! just.......classless..... :x

I think they help pay the bills....
 
they likely do. and i don't claim to know how these things work. but seems to me you could still pay the bills by advertising on every page except for pages like obituaries or major catastrophic events. just seems tasteless. maybe i'm way off. :?

If so many cat (and other) fans didn't constantly troll the boards, the dollars from donors might be enough to cover expenses. Alas...

I had the privilege of having Mr. Stranahan as a teacher a couple times at Mt. Spokane High School and I must say, he was a great guy and will be missed!
