Lance Armstrong

So in your opinion, was he the leader of a huge drug ring, or is this a witch hunt to knock the mighty one off his throne?

Guilty. Even his best bro said so. However, from what I have been told by some biking enthusiasts, he may have been doping but what he was doing wasn't technically against the rules at the time of his greatness. So you can see this both ways, I think.

Everyone knew he was guilty. But it sounds like virtually everyone who is competitive in cycling is doping. Even Montana's own Levi Liepheimer was.

The majority of professional athletes are doping anyway so this is no surprise.

Edit: here comes the s*** storm.

...have you ever road one for an extended period of time...
...it'z a wonder they're not all hooked on pain killerz...
...and putz a whole new meaning on sore azz...

... 8-) ...

Not to condone what he has apparently done, I think Armstrong still may be the greatest cyclist ever -- all the people against whom he was competing were doing exactly the same doping that he was, they just weren't as sophisticated as he was. He was, in my mind, competing with equals, and beating them every time!

+1

It is the biggest ethical issue in sports... especially professional sports. Most people don't realize how prevalent doping in sports is. It doesn't mean it is right, but he would not be able to compete against doping athletes in a sport that enormously favors athleticism over skill unlike most other sports. I still respect the man & I always will.

I too will always admire Lance Armstrong. Having done a good deal of bike touring when I was younger I know how grueling this activity can be. Whether what Armstrong did was cheating I can not say when there is some question as to the exact nature of the prohibition of the practice of doping when he was competing. I do know that both steroid use and doping were rampant in cycling at that time. Did this lead to an unfair advantage for Lance Armstrong? I don't know. What I do know is that that allegation can not be proven.

This is the same problem that I had with the steroid scandal in baseball. At the time, it was technically not illegal. Was it cheating? Maybe. Was it widespread? Definitely. Did it lead to an unfair advantage? Again, unknown and unproven.

Agreed. But trying to destroy the people that told the truth is unconciounable. The hell with him. He's a bad guy.
