Lady Griz vs. Sac State/Portland State

It was a big win for the Lady Griz against a very aggressive and fast Sac State team, but it may have come at a price. McCalle Feller left the game with an apparent ankle injury early in the 4th and did not return; she had 22 points.

Kayleigh Valley (27 & 10) and Alycia Sims (17 & 16) both recorded double-doubles, so if they duplicate their performances against Portland State on Saturday, who would most likely be in line for POTW honors? I'd go with Sims because she has to be the hardest-working player on the team from what I've seen out of her this season.

Definitely a nice win. Sac is tough with their style.

And yes, pray for McCalle. Cannot afford to lose her.

Feller came back on the court, was walking around fairly well and was testing her ankle/leg. When she went down, she seemed to be in pain above the ankle. I was assuming high ankle sprain, but it seemed high for even that. It looked like she was hurt bad. Down a long time. Needed assistance getting off the court. I was surprised to see her later and in a much better condition. Fingers crossed. She's a great one.

SS plays a very fast and aggressive full court press, trapping, double and triple teaming defense. Double teams after defensive rebounds. It was a frenetic game. Even the crowd felt the pressure from the get-go. The LG played very well and did fairly well most of the time against the pressure. SS subs all 5 players frequently.

Valley is always outstanding. Simms is very good, but she was extra good last night. Great hitting the boards. Finishes plays well, I think because of her strength that allows her not to get bumped off course. Vining had a nice game. Doran had a nice game too.

It was a fun atmosphere. The crowd was really on the refs at times. More than any LG game I recall. The guy was very good, but the crowd didn't like the calls and no-calls of the other two.

I'd guess that if they duplicate Alycia would be more likely to be POTW simply because we're more accustomed to seeing Kayleigh have games like that. Don't get me wrong, she is phenomenal and Sims is a very solid player, but Alycia is playing up above her usual standard right now. She had one particular rebound last night that blew me away. She sealed off the SS player and had her right hand caught up with her so she went up and got the rebound with just her left. Sac ended up fouling her on the play. That kind of effort is great to see right now!

Alycia had another great game today with 29 points 15 rebounds, 3 assists, and a block. On top of that she only had one or two fouls. Valley had another nice game with 18 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and McCalle didn't play as she was off the bench on crutches. Sims and Valley each played 39 minutes. Final score 76-57 Montana.

Hate to say this, but I tried watching the last 5 minutes of the Lady Griz game today and my GOD is that painful to watch....wowza.
