LadyGriz Lady Griz VS Sac St

Man, Montana State crushed both teams we barely beat and just lost to.
Lady Griz are so on again off again. No consistency.

4th quarter LG score at 7:31 to be down 1 51-50 then don’t score again until 2:55. In the 3rd the went for over 5min without scoring. Between the last two quarters that is about 10 min without scoring. That is the same as one whole quarter with no points. Not good.

Like I said another thread. They always have at least one bad quarter. This game was bad stretches that kind of equaled 2 to 2 1/2 bad quarters.

The best play from Mack was in her crisp and accurate passes. She was understandably tentative driving in and shooting, and with 31 seconds left, Griz ball and down 3 points, I think Wacker would have been stronger choice for the essential drive to the basket.

The GrizWBB took 62 shots, 41 from beyond the arc... 9 more than Sac St. attempted. They shot 35.5% from the field, 26.8% from beyond the arc on largely open shots. Last week, in their road win at ISU, the team shot almost 50% from the field. This is a very young team and getting better week by week. But the story of their season (in my view) is the dramatic inconsistency of their shooting from game to game.

Yup so goes the quirky on/off LG play, the 3pt really not very good, not seeing enough offense rebounds, so low 2nd chance points. Good to see Mack back, but in my opinion disrupted flow/play at the point versus where we were going with Avery and Wacker. We were set for a last chance tie in the end, not sure if by design we wanted to have Mack drive inside, well she did, got a desperation shot off on a big, missed...end of story. Not sure if this was Nate's plan, (why give a rusty player that opportunity?) . Alternately I was hoping to load up on our best 3-players, (that would have not included Mack), take the shot. Oh well, these teams were well matched...hope we have more on's than off's. I would not place Mack on point, even with limited play due to her injury and need to get back into the game, we've got more gong on/forming with Wacker and Avery out front.

I personally would have had Waddington take the drive to the basket. She is the best player on the team with finishing at the basket. Mac is the second best but she just returned from an extended period recovering from an injury.

The best improvement the team can have is if Aby Shubert could regain the shooting touch she had last year. She is shooting around 10% lower in both Overall Shots and 3 point shooting average. With the number of attempts she makes, this would make a significant improvement. I guess you could call it a junior slump this year.

Why was anyone attempting to drive? We were down 3 with only seconds left. Unless it resulted in a make and foul, we are still 1 point down. Should have looked for a 3.
