This past Tuesday, Hoop Club members were invited to lunch at the Sky Club with Staff and Team, followed by practice.

Coach Holsinger announced the season will start at home with games against Gonzaga and WSU. He will be hiring one more assistant soon, and it sounded like they will be staffed similar to what Travis announced for the Men, with Haley Simental also becoming an assistant, and basketball operations split up amongst the staff, and 2 coaches not allowed to recruit.

Carmen Gfeller sat at our table, she told us she is completely healed from the stress fracture in her foot that bothered her all last season.

Practice was short with lots of drills, so getting a good impression on everyone was limited. Gina Marxen recently sprained her ankle jumping over a sprinkler, so she just ran on the sidelines. She looked like she will be ready to go again very soon. Dani Bartch is still sitting out from shoulder surgery, but Coach said she will be ready to go come the season. Draya Wacker was sick and at the doctor, Coach said her knee is getting better and participating in practice, but still has a ways to go. Keeli Burton did not suit up. Imogen Greenslade missed most of practice because she was in class. She played just a bit 5 on 5 at the end. She is big and imposing, but she didn't get to play enough for me to get much of an idea of her talent. Maggie Espenmiller-McGraw looked very good and confident as a grad-transfer should, she will be a very good addition. Adria Lincoln looked very confident for a true freshman, she will be a great one. Macey Huard is much more athletic and quicker than her sister. She seemed a little lost on defense, Coach said that is typical for new freshmen, and she will get it. I was impressed with MJ Bruno, she is going to be a factor on defense.

Great synopsis. Hopefully everyone can get healthy soon.

Both Gonzaga and Washington State are loaded. I believe both return nearly everyone from last season’s roster (and the Cougs added Beyonce Bea). Those games will allow the Lady Griz to understand where they need to improve before Big Sky play.

Thanks for the update! Very cool for Griz fans to get the opportunity to watch power 5 schools in Missoula (joining the Griz Soccer and Griz Volleyball teams).

BTW, there's a very interesting profile of Imogen over at GoGriz. As a drama student (she describes herself as "loud,"). I get the impression she'll have a huge impact on the team on and off court and in practice as well.

I forgot to mention Macy Donarski. She is short, but tough and scrappy. She will be a crowd favorite. Stump and Konig also looked good. Libby continues to hit every 10-foot pull up jumper.

Notice you mention all three freshmen, Donarski, Huard and Lincoln. This is a highly touted class, all with great credentials coming out of high school. Glad that even the most preliminary of evaluations is positive.

Montana has produced some extraordinary women players over the years but collegiate women's basketball has progressed to the point that, as with the men, we can no longer rely solely on Montana talent.

Gotta play "Montana tough" defense and rebound. I thought the thing lacking in last year's freshmen. Big part of the game that coaching and attitude influence more than anything. These " higher caliber" recruits...according to Citay who knows all about all recruits....need to scratch and claw like the Lady Griz of old.

Did I miss a coaching change announcement? Lisa O'Meara isn't listed on the coaching staff for this year.

Edit: Okay, I missed the post from a little while ago. Wish her the best, and hope we get a good replacement.

Yes apparently you missed that Lisa joined Oregon's staff.
