The Lady Griz came away with a 72-60 road win against Weber State, outscoring the Wildcats in each quarter.

Five players scored in double digits, including Jace Henderson, who was a perfect 5-5 on field goals, and fell 3 assists shy of a triple double (10 points, 13 rebounds, 7 assists).

Winning by 12, on their court, is not a run away. Just proves that despite injuries, there is still at least one team the Lady Griz can beat. Must have been a better game than the score suggests.

It was closer than the score indicates but the Lady Griz did run away with it. Just in the last 5 minutes of the game. It was a 7 point lead with 5:41 left which became a 15 point lead with 2:28 minutes left and it was just getting the game over with the rest of the way.

I did watch the entire game from beginning to end... and it was a quality win. Montana built its lead steadily through the middle of the 3rd quarter, when it led by 15. Weber State battled back by the end of the quarter with flurry of buckets (& some odd bounces), but the Griz regrouped and re-built their lead to 15 until a last-second trey narrowed the margin to the final score. I don't think the game was statistically a runaway, but a very solid effort by Montana, which held a comfortable lead through most of the second half. Loads of fun to watch. This team gets better game by game. This is a good team, fun to watch and have a chance to make an impact down the road. Go Montana

If the ladies could get a little more consistent from game to game, I think their improvement would be more obvious. Passing the injury bug all around the team the last 3 years doesn't help with building consistency either. I can't figure this team out. Beat Idaho. Followed by only scoring 34 at Idaho State. Followed by beating a Weber team who had just given MSU hell in Bozeman.

The MSU/Weber game was in Ogden.

My fault. For some reason I thought they were in Bozeman.

The loss vs. ISU must be quantified! Yes, Montana shot poorly and committed too many turnovers. However, Montana's defense was gritty and D alone kept them within striking distance of the Bengals until early in the fourth quarter. For example: Montana trailed ISU by 1 (9-8) after one quarter, by 3 (21-18) after two quarters, and by only 7 (33-24) after three quarters. The blowout came late, midway through the 4th quarter.

In comparison, the ISU-MSU (61-43) game played out in almost identical fashion, with the Bengals blowing past the Cats by a 15-5 tally in the fourth quarter, though the Cats were out of it early in the third quarter. I'm not certain it's Montana inconsistency as much as that the Bengals are a good defensive team, especially in Pocatello.

No doubt, Montana needs more consistent scoring, particularly from the rim. The turnovers came from ISU's clampdown of Jace Henderson. Otherwise, Montana played a sound fundamental game, especially on defense, and was within striking distance into the fourth quarter.

Depending upon team health (fingers crossed) I believe Montana is in position for a top-5 finish in the Big Sky this season.

ISU has always been defensive oriented under Seton Sobolewski, but they have taken defense to a new level this year. They held Montana and MSU 55 points under their combined averages this week, limiting them to a combined 24 of 100 from the field. They shut down Henderson Thursday (6 points) then Claire Lundberg yesterday (1 of 11 from the field). It’s not aesthetically pleasing basketball, but it’s been pretty darn effective so far.
