Lady Griz posted one of their biggest wins of the season last night

Because the men Griz have been in first place and the Lady Griz have been up and down, most Thursday nights when the men's teams are on the road, Tootell and I get together and watch on Pluto instead of going to Dahlberg Arena.

But last night, the Lady Griz had one of the biggest games of the Shannon Schweyen era. Coming off two straight losses, including a drubbing at the hands of the Bobcats, Montana all of a sudden sat tied with Southern Utah for fifth in the league standings.

NAU is one of if not the worst job in all of Big Sky basketball. Yet Havre native Loree Payne has them humming along. They came into Dahlberg alone in second place, 12-5, in just her third season.

We went to the game because, as we talked about in our show yesterday, a loss to a previously hapless opponent at home could be mentally damaging and cause another spiral to end the season and, possible, the tenure of the head coach.

But Montana responded. Jamie Pickens had perhaps her best game as a Lady Griz, Taylor Goligoski hit clutch shots and the Lady Griz posted perhaps their biggest win of the season.

It was a nice win. LG had so many TOs on bad passes early in game. More than a half dozen, I think. Just didn't look very good. Fortunately, neither did NAU.

Later in first half and in 3d quarter, LG started chipping away. Just when it seemed like they might get a lead in the 3d q, NAU started playing better. It was a game.

Then, in 4th q, LG really started playing well and took charge.

I talked to a starter in the hallway well after the game. In response to a comment, she said that "once they pulled their heads out of their __, they started playing better". There you have it.
