Lady Griz - Idaho State Showdown!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Could this be the end for the Lady Griz? I hate having to go on the road against the stupid potato heads. I'm worried that this could be the end of our dominance. ISU is so young and talented. As much as I hate to admit it, this could be a passing of the torch of sorts.[/b]

No way. Idaho State is good, but if the Lady Griz put together a solid shooting performance they'll win.

I think Thursday night is when the Lady Griz lock up the tournament.

I am not worried about the Lady Griz losing their dominance. They are an extremely young, talented team, who will continue to improve.

I agree with MGR and Grizband. I think the Lady Griz will handle ISU with relative ease (although probably not by 55 points like they did in the first meeting). And second, with Montana's youth and Robin's recruiting ability, there is no way the Lady Griz will give up their dominance of this conference.

You know, Robin has won at least 20 games 24 out of the 28 seasons he's been at Montana. That's nothing short of freakin' remarkable.

With 3/4 of the Lady Griz freshmen or sophomore, there is no way Lady Griz will be passing any torch.

Mandy Morales will be a legitimate candidate for being Conference MVP for 3 of 4 years. Heck, she could be MVP this year, so maybe that will be 4 years.

Two years from now could be the best Lady Griz team ever.

Plus, Lady Griz have been the only team in the conference that have consistently been at the top and I do not see that changing anytime soon. Most of the reason for this, is the coaches. Keep the same coaches year in and year out, the team will stay consistent.

Methinks grizlyman might really be more of a bengalman.

He'd have to be to pick against the LGs in this game...

The LG are the youngest team in the BSC. I hardly think the end is near.

I think Idaho State is younger than Montana...UM has more total freshman, but ISU is really only using seven players right now....and the two leading scorers in the Big Sky are sophomores for the Bengals in Lightfoot and Doma.

ISU right now is starting two juniors, two sophomores, and a freshman, with two freshmen as the only main subs off the bench. The other five bench players are in order:

*A freshman who is awful
*A volleyball player
*A manager
*A senior who has a torn ACL and can't play
*A freshman who has a torn ACL who can't play

I'm not sure why everyone jumped off Montana's bandwagon in the media and hitched it to NAU, but you know barring disasterous injuries like in 1999 or 2000 or whenever that was, UM is going to be in the chase somewhere, even if they don't win the whole thing (and there was a five year stretch from like 99-03 where they didn't win it).

However, you have to give ISU serious props...there is no way they should be facing Montana with the rights to hosting the conference tournament on the line at this point with what they have gone through (losing two players to ACLs, and losing Molly Hays and their starting point guard India Soo after school had already started). Newlee has to be the coach of the year in women's hoops....I mean, folks thought NAU to win and Montana a close second....hell, in one poll ISU got ONE MORE VOTE than Montana State.....yikes.

All of that said....boy, I'm not sure ISU can beat Montana, but it should be a good game. ISU must play near perfect basketball to win...I would think in a matchup of these two teams playing 10 games, Montana wins eight, so I'm hoping this one and the tournament game are the two in our favor!

BBB,

A lot of good points. Trust me, the LG knows all about ACL's. We have one guard who has had 5 surgeries and another with 2 of them. Neither of them played this year and may never play again. We also stared a lot of freshmen and sophomores and Morales is arguably the best all around player in the BSC as a freshmen. Guardipee is also a freshmen who led the BSC by far in blocks. The we have Closson and Conway who are both sophomores and have scored over 20 points each in games this season.

I think your coach has done a great job at ISU. Obviously losing Molly Hays didn't help, but you got the Nebraska transfer which offset that loss pretty nicely.

It should be a fun matchup between the two teams this week. It is too bad you guys don't get better support except when the LG come to town.

Can't really argue with any off BBB's points. ISU should be extremely proud of what the've done so far this season, and yes, they will challenge for the title.

But the point about the lack of ISU's depth is the key, and I think that's why UM has been so good for so long. Selvig always has deep teams, and this year is no different. Nine Lady Griz players average better than 11 minutes per game, 10 players have scored at least 40 points on the season, and 7 have at least 131 points. Excpet for McLeod and Katie, all of those players are underclassmen (underclasswomen??).

Did ISU ever have 15 scholarshipped players before this season started?

Which team is younger is debatable here since lady Griz have 15 scholarshipped players and only 3 of them junior or higher, being that there are 6 freshman and 6 sophomores.

I consider Lady Griz being younger this year, but ISU, if Newlee can sign enough players to get up to 15 players, look to become the younger team next year.

Lady Griz will certainly become more veteran next year and less reliant on the perimeter. Lady Griz's last game is what I believe will be a preview of what next years team will be. Shot over 50% from the field with most of the shots inside the arc due to the development of Tamara Guardipee.

Tonight's game should be a dandy.

Maybe Robin will have the Lady Griz try to up the tempo of this game and become real physical to wear down the Bengals. You never know what these Big Sky refs will allow. Sometimes it changes from half to half. Heck, some refs don't even know the rules very well.

TruGriz,

One thing you may have overlooked is ISU has 3 transfers on their roster now. The LG may still be the youngest unless he brings in nothing but HS recruits which has not been how ISU typically recruits.
