OK, it is fairly obvious that the moment, the LG is a poor shooting team, possibly statistically the worst Robin has had while coach of the LG. Also no secret is that the team is made up of very young talent with the majority being FR and So. My question is can shooting be coached or is it simply a natural ability that the current set of players lack? It would be telling to know if the average player gets better at shooting over the span of their career but simply looking at stats can be misleading because so much changes as a function of time. For examples:
- A player might start at the one spot and then move to two and shoot better or worse as a result of assists or different kinds of shots while not having fundementally better shooting skills.
- A player may not be regarded as the premiere scorer on the team one year and draw lesser opponents on defense but then get the best defender the next year when they the best because of graduation of the former best.
- A player like Shaq makes the players around him better shooters by drawing double teams and giving other players more open looks which are at least theoretically easier shots.
And there are many other such intangibles that affect stats.
So the question can the LG get better at shooting as a function of time or are they pretty much destined to be poor shooters and have to win other ways like rebounding and defense (which appears to be the way they have won many of their previous games)?
