Lady Griz Beat Cats in OT: 84 79

The Lady Griz came from behind in OT to get the win, after leading most of the game, including by 17 with 12 minutes to go.

Torrey Hill had a tremendous game, with I think a career high 23. She was very good in the OT with multiple nice plays and 7 points. Played 43 minutes. Selvig had a nice stetch in the middle of the OT, with a good rebound and 2 buckets.

The whole team played well, battling a good Cat team who played aggressive defense and kept taking, or trying to take, it to the hoop. Sims and Selvig (13 and 11) had a bunch of rebounds. Cole and Selvig had nice games.

The Griz should have won in regulation. They took 2 early ill-advised early shots from outside in transition, giving up chances to run time off the clock (at about 5 and 3 minutes), and missed some free throws late in the game. The Griz went down 5 at the start of the OT, but battled back and regained the lead with 1:27 to go.

John Stockton was at the game, watching his Cat daughter. A curly dark-haired female ref was just terrible; had never seen her before. The other 2 were fine.

Nice win. The Lady Griz are very good and improving. Griz in 2d place, at 7-3, behind North Dakota (9-2). 3448 attendance. Decent crowd but could and should have been better.

Watched both games on Big Sky TV simultaneously -- thought the Lady Griz game was the more entertaining game. The men's game (especially for a Griz/Cat game) seemed really lackluster at times. Very solid effort by the Lady Griz to battle tough after losing a big lead and also trailing most of the overtime period.

I am a big John Stockton fan and met him once in Butte at a Frontier Conference Tourney game while his son was playing for Westminster. It was a little weird though...since I was wearing his jersey. Although, I was not wearing his shorts thankfully

Old Stockton story....Early in his high school career his sights were set on getting a scholarship to Carroll. He use to play at night at Gonzaga U. with law school guys and undergrads. He was overly polite and respectful so Law guys would make sure he got on their pick-up teams so he got to play more.(not because his dad owned Jack and Dans, but because he was so likeable) Law guys and undergrads were rivals most nights and undergrads didn't pay much attention or try to include the 2 or 3 high schoolers from GPrep.
Now, the story is how everyone (all experts of course) knew John Stockton was going to be a star at Gonzaga U....and thousands of 76-80 Zag undergrads played with John nightly and also knew he was going to be the best ever.
What a great player and individual.....

I hadn't heard that Stockton had once wanted to come to Carroll.

I've heard the story that Stockton had committed to UM, and if he had actually followed through he would have played with Krystkowiak. But then his father developed some health issues -- or so the story goes that I heard -- so he decided to stay in Spokane at Gonzaga.

Anyone know if that's actually what happened?

Good win but the Lady Griz really need to do something different when we play against a full court pressure defense. It has been our big weakness for years. We had big leads both games this weekend and almost gave it away twice as soon as the opponent starts the pressure. The last team that I remember being able to break the press had Brooklyn Lorenze at point back in like 2004.
