Bad first half shooting the ball and CSU torched the Lady Griz zone defense. That is all there is to say why the Lady Griz lost today. Colorado State lead 41 - 17 after the first half. Lady Griz shot only 16% in the first half. CSU shot 54.8% in the first half.
But, Lady Griz should have won this game. They outscored CSU 36 - 24 in the second half. Shot better, shooting 35.3% (which really should have been better). But, the Lady Griz played with so much more energy in the second half, played much better defensively, that I really do not feel as bad about the team as I did in the first half.
Defense, rebounding, and shooting in the first half is what lost the game.
The Lady Griz did execute well enough offensively in the first half, but just didn't make the shot. Both Katie, and Hollie had good looks but missed. Lady Griz turned the ball over only 7 times in the first half, 10 for the whole game.
Hollie Tyler lead the Lady Griz with 12 points on 4 - 14 shooting and 4 - 4 from the free throw line.
Katie Edwards had 11 points on 4 - 17 from the field and 1 - 2 from free throw line. These are the two players on the team that have to shoot much better than this.
Laura Cote had her best game of the year. Made 8 points on 3 - 7 from the field, and 2 of 2 from free throw line, had two steals and 4 rebounds in 13 minutes.
Juliann Keller also scored 8 points, 6 of them in the first half.
Dana Conway made 6 points, played good at point guard.
