Kramer visits Eags' practice
There was a familiar face roaming the sidelines at Eastern Washington University’s football practice Wednesday afternoon.
Former Eagles coach Mike Kramer stopped by to watch his former team, and spent most of the practice session renewing acquaintances with coaches and boosters.
Kramer, who was fired last May after seven seasons at Montana State, said he has visited practices at more than 35 different campuses since mid-September in an effort to make it known that he interested in getting back into coaching.
Among his earlier stops were USC, Washington and Washington State. Kramer, who visited with Eastern coach Paul Wulff before and after practice, said he was scheduled to fly to Florida to take in a University of Florida practice later this week, but postponed the trip.
He plans to travel to Corvallis, Ore., today to visit an Oregon State practice, before heading to Eugene, Ore., to watch Saturday’s Pacific-10 Conference showdown between No. 4 Oregon and No. 6 Arizona State.
Kramer said he is hoping to land a job as an assistant college coach, preferably at a Football Bowl Subdivision school, and added he has already put over 7,000 miles on his car in search of that job.
Wulff laughed at the idea of Kramer's visiting re-igniting rumors that he was going to join the staff at Eastern.
Such rumors surfaced over the off-season, even though Wulff said he and Kramer never discussed the idea.
"This is the first time I've seen him this season," Wulff said after Wednesday's practice.
In an unrelated matter, Eagles wide receiver Tony Davis, who has missed the last five games with a shoulder injury, was suited up for Wednesday's practice and Wullf said there is an "outside chance" he could see limited duty in Saturday's homecoming game against Northern Colorado.
The Eagles practiced in shorts, helmets and shoulder pads and Davis, who was wearing the same kind of blue "hands off" jersey that the quarterbacks wear, did not participate in team drills.
