Just saw this on Football Scoop, former Montana DC is off to SIU

Southern Illinois: Former longtime Montana defensive coordinator Kraig Paulson is being added to the staff as defensive coordinator, per source. Paulson spent this past season as the defensive backs coach at Northern State but also has previous coaching stops at Utah State and UNLV.

Good for Craig. He is a quality individual and I wish him nothing but good luck in the future.

What? Another coach hired before the AFCA convention, what are those silly head coaches thinking? Trying to hire people before others try....silly goose

Once again....chill....

Southern Illinois fan here, just curious as to what to expect with Coach Paulson? I've seen he's bounced around the last few years, just curious if that just happened to be from circumstance or what?

We've got a 30 year old new head coach and I know we are in some need of some experience on the staff. Hopefully Paulson can add that and help get our program turned back around from mediocrity.

Thanks!

Paulson - a passionate and "fiery" guy, easy to spot (hear) in practice. Expects the best out of his guys and when he was here had very good respect from all of his players. Our most recent DC, Ty Gregorak, was a protegee of his - of sorts. While at the UM Paulson mostly ran a 4-3 defense with a fairly standard cover-2 type of design. His defenses were best when he had great safeties - the better they were, the better his overall defense performed. Griz fans would kind of piss and moan a bit that his defenses were a little too bland at times. However over his stretch as our DC we regularly had one of the better defenses in the Big Sky. The issues his defense would hit were against spread/run-option teams. Seemed to be a regular "Achilles heel" for his game plans. Usually come the playoffs, we'd get bit by a team that ran an offense we didn't see that often.

He's a very good FCS D-coordinator, IMO. It didn't work too well for him at UNLV... however that's a tough measuring stick since it was UNLV.
