A little under the radar but longtime Missoula tradition last night, the Ray Rocene (now KPAX) Missoula sports awards banquet.
A few Griz ties, John Edward was guest speaker, Selvig the MC, Pflugrad and O'Day in attendance and Griz recruits Zach Peevey and DJ Reinhardt won the respective Male and Female high school student/athlete awards. No small accomplishment as the nominees from all 5 Missoula high schools were multi-sport athletes and excellent sutdents who give volunteer time to the community.
This is an event where the good in both kids and volunteers/coaches/parents is headlined. Edwards spoke to the kids about how sports prepares then for the good and bad in life and his message was well received. The recipients of the Ray Rocene, Campbell-Buzzeti and Ed Chinske Award have provided well over 75 years to kids via coaching, teaching and support.
Not sure if it's the KPAX sponsorship thing but our friends at the Missoulian sure do a poor job in covering this event which is a great tradition.
