Kitties at WSU

A big reason it was only 31-0 is because for the first half and most of the third quarter, the Cat defense didn't give up any big plays. They played fairly well and forced Wazzu to sustain drives.

Yeah he hasn't progressed at all on the passing front, I didn't watch much of it but it looked like same shit as last year, run all the way or bail into the run.

I'd like to hear from Vim or ABQ or another non-delusional Cat fan how long they think this will be allowed to go on or if they'll stick it out with Murray even though defenses will sell out on the run? Not trolling at all.

Hard to take anything away offensively from Chris or the Cats performance yesterday. I didn't like that he took too many hits when he had opportunities to go down. In terms of his passing improving or not improving, last night's game didn't help either way. He had very little time to throw and I'm not just using that as an excuse. It was just a simple fact last night. WSU's front seven was pretty salty from the get go and our offensive line couldn't handle them. Next week's game against SDSU will be the first test for Chris because it will be a matchup of two FCS teams. If the Cats want to say they belong in the conversation, they have perform better on offense against the Jackrabbits.

I agree that it's hard to judge on a game like that, but normally as the game gets out of hand some of the underneath stuff is given, like I said I didn't watch a lot of it so can't really say how it went later on. Probably be a better indicator this week all right.

I know the announcer were saying it was obvious he has very poor throwing mechanics and not likely to be a reliable passer at all.

We will see next week. That Wazzu game was no indication when the defense was on him in 2 seconds. How can you evaluate mechanics with that type of pressure?

QB Murray has the leadership demeanor of a cigar store Native American. Choate's one man tuck it and run offensive philosophy seems to be devoted to not coughing up the ball...while assuring that you don't score any points. MSU can send a lot of guys to the ball, but their man on man tackling is horrible. Who do you suppose has a hand in coaching the Cat's defense?

In fairness, the Cat secondary seems to be somewhat improved in the second half.Kinda...
Wow. Racist much.

I think the cats numbers will be better against SDSU, but I also think they lose by more as well.

Murray's passing performance reminded me of Phillips in the spring game. Multiple d-line in the backfield in nanoseconds. Murray runs, and Phillips slings it into coverage under duress. Phillips showed he can make good decisions and deliver strikes with adequate protection, so we will see if Murray can do the same. Some kids learn and improve on their weaknesses, and some don't. I don't buy the terrible mechanics opinion on Murray. His problems stem from being uncomfortable with the pass rush. When his feet are set, he throws well. When he gets flushed, it is pretty ugly, and he might as well just run, haha

I was surprised WSU did so many shorter passes and didn't throw the deep ball much. Was a strange game.
Really? Why would they want to show their good stuff against a team that was not a threat to score?

If they think QB is their only problem... they need to think again.

The cats just got a good look at Ty's vaunted defensive style...

Bend over and wear yourself out by rushing 3 and having the other 8 guys drop like a gopher shot with a 7MM.
Sure no big plays but gave up 500+ yards, and allowed yourself to get wore out.
Same shit different team...

Sure looked like the cat coaches really did not think they could win and never gave the players a chance to. I bet the players are not to happy with the lack of aggressive play calling on both side of the ball.

i really think payton is right ....choate almost says this in his body language after the game imo....any player/competitor wants to play to win every game.

Weren't the Cats down 0-7 at the first quarter; 0-14 at the half; 0-21 at the 3d quarter. Didn't see the game nor look at the stats, if a team is only down 14 at the half, isn't it still in the game and have a chance to win?

Just peaked at stats. The WSU qb hit his first 21 passes, and finished 33-39 with over 300 yards. And WSU was 40-48 passing. Lots of short passes. The Cat offense was truly awful in stats.

Choate coached linebackers for Leach at WSU. He is quoted saying that the way you have to play Leach is to keep the passes in front of you and hope you can knock some down and make some tackles. Note that the Griz gave up 450 yards to Valpo, or 6.1 yards per play. MSU gave up 511 yards, or 7 yards per play. MSU's offense had 143 yards of TO in 44 plays.

And Wazzu's offense is based on the short passing game. Wasn't surprising. Cats just did a good job of tackling and keeping them from turning into huge YAC plays.
