Kinghorn avoids suspension, cobwebs a different story
By Ryan Divish Journal Sports Writer
POCATELLO — Logan Kinghorn will never admit it, but he’s getting a little tired of answering the same question, over and over. For anyone curious, yes, his head is fine after taking a nasty spill on an intentional foul by Montana’s Matt Dlouhy in Idaho State’s 95-70 win over the Griz at Reed Gym.
“Quite a few people have asked me,” Kinghorn admitted. “One of my professors made me get up and recant what happened in class.”
There is one slight problem. Kinghorn doesn’t remember most of it. He doesn’t remember Dlouhy grabbing Kinghorn’s jersey and yanking him down from behind. He doesn’t remember coming-to on the floor, shaking off ISU trainer Phil Luckey and charging toward the UM bench. He doesn’t remember woozily wandering to half court and passing out.
“I saw the game tape of it and it’s weird to see,” Kinghorn said. “I saw the look on my face when they finally got me on my feet and it was very angry.”
Both Dlouhy and Kinghorn were ejected from the game. There was some speculation that a one-game suspension could result.
However, Big Sky Conference commissioner Doug Fullerton reviewed the game tape of the incident and decided not issue any suspensions.
“We are disappointed with the hard foul,’’ Fullerton said. “It was a dangerous situation. Both players were punished for their actions by the game officials by being ejected from the game, but after reviewing the film and interviewing game officials we concluded there was no action that warranted further discipline.”
Kinghorn didn’t think he deserved the ejection, let alone a suspension.
“I didn’t know what I was doing,” Kinghorn said. “The thing of it is, I wasn’t thinking clearly. My first instinct was to jump up.”
While Kinghorn won’t be suspended, he still may miss Thursday’s game at Northern Arizona. He has yet to practice and is suffering from the effects of the concussion.
“We’re going to be very careful,” ISU head coach Doug Oliver said. “This the type of injury that you wait until they are 100 percent before coming back.”
