Keys to beating the cats

obviously we are in a bit of a slump right now. we are on a 4 game losing streak while the cats are on a 4 game winning streak coming into Griz-Cat next week. it seems that the cats have all the momentum heading into the game, but lets not forget that the griz have 14 consecutive Griz-Cat games, and after we lost to them in football, we are not going to lose tp them in basketball. Here's what we need to do heading into the game to give us the win:

1: Let the past be the past. yes we have lost 4 games in a row, but we need to put that behind us and focus on the cats.
2: Good ball movement. we have got to have to good ball rotations and keep passing the ball until the defense collapses then look for the open shot.
3: Contain Tyler Hall. we need to stay on him at all times. if we keep him defended pretty good, than the cats will have to look for Harold Frey out on the perimeter, and we can keep him from shooting.
4: Do not let the Cats get up early on us. if the cats jump on us early, we are in for a world of trouble because its tough to come back on the cats.
5: Play defense. I cannot stress this enough. We need to play defense. We looked really sloppy last night on the defensive side of the ball.
6: Keep Krslovic out of foul trouble. the offense is much easier to flow with when Krslovic is in the game. He cannot get into foul trouble or were going to have to rely on threes and deep twos.
7: Do not get out rebounded: that was the story of this home series. I don't know how many offensive rebounds the Vandals got last night on us. If we are going to beat the cats we need to rebound.
8: The crowd needs to get into it. I understand that we are on a four game losing streak, but this is the biggest game of the season. the crowd needs to get engaged and get excited. We need to make some noise.

Those are my thoughts on the game. Feel free to add more to the list.

Cats...5 game winning streak.
9: Score at least one more point that the Cats. Or:

10: Defend well enough that the Cats score at least one less point that us.

Discussion about the Griz this year seems to center on "limited big man depth" and maybe just limited big men. That's a valid observation but these past few games it seems to me "lack of a big guard" is an issue that may be more important (and may not be remedied by our transfers, redshirts or incoming recruits). EWU's Bliznyuk (6'6" - 215) and Idaho's Sanders (6'5" - 190) both scored 25+ vs. the Griz and their MO's were the same.....dribble down the clock a bit, isolate a smaller guard and take them to the basket for easy lay-ins or dump off assists. We had no answer in either game.

Particularly In the Idaho game, Griz also tried to take it to the basket on offense.....but Wright and Rorie in particular seemed to run into a wall most times they did. And Fab (please try not to foul out vs. the Cats!) reverted to last year's "touch" while also struggling to even get shots to the basket vs. Idaho's defense

Can the Griz handle another good big guard this weekend when Hall comes in? They were actually fortunate that Bliznyuk and Sanders didn't make many 3's on their way to 25+ points.

Also.....Lopez, Gfeller, Morehead.......talk about streaky guys.

This should be a very interesting game...I wouldn't overlook Frey. He has really come on as of late, and plays way ahead of his Freshman age. If you concentrate to much on Hall, Frey will burn you with his drive. Hall will go iso and then beat you with the pass as well (sometimes I feel he passes it to much...if you can while still averaging 24 points a game.) Cats are 1-8 when Hall scores more than 30 points.
