I nominate this as a great motto for our sports information department.

Why?

I just googled about 20 basketball programs, from Big Sky schools to Pac 12 schools to Big Ten schools.

Every single one has an updated roster, with pics and bios, even of the freshmen.

A few have team pictures.

Montana?

Nah!

We play an exhibition scrimmage against WSU, and there's rumor we won. But nary a peep, tweet, post or word about it from our SID--whose middle name is "Information."

Information is not only power, it's also excitement--especially when it comes to the most anticipated basketball season in years at Montana.

Instead we get what amounts to an undercover operation.

I just don't get it.

I am told, they delay things like this, just to mess with you. Let it be man, and save yourself the stress.

Rule:

This staff is knocking themselves out. To Recruit. To Coach. To schedule upper-echelon teams.

The result is something I've never seen in the history of Montana sports programs: A team that can be competitive not just with Big Sky or 1-AA teams, but with teams at the highest level in the country.

This year we travel to Arizona and Creighton, two of the elite programs in college basketball, and I believe we'll not only be competitive, but might win one of those games. And one of those games is on national TV.

What's the last time a Montana basketball team has been on national TV during the regular season?

It speaks yet again to what this staff has accomplished, to the program they are building at Montana.

So why can't our SID keep pace? Why can't they keep pace with the excellence our coaching staff is demonstrating?

Our SID is lame. You know it, and so does everybody else on this board. If our basketball program were lame, you're right. I wouldn't care.

But this coaching staff cares. They're doing a great job at salaries well below the norm for what they're accomplishing.

So I care. And nothing you say will change that.

The SID should too.

I appreciate being a stickler and wanting the latest info, and I don't know anything about this WSU (Wazzu?) scrimmage, but since it doesn't count, I am assuming they can't post stats from it? I see updated roster, pics, bios and schedule on thegogriz website today.

From my understanding the results of theses "secret scrimmages" are kept pretty tight, since they are not official results. They will occasionally leak onto Facebook, or other media, but overall they are not highly publicized.

All I know is we won by double digits. They are keeping results pretty close to the chest for some reason. On a side note, everyone in the country does this. Why is it have to be secret? So dumb.

pretty sure we played on national TV last year...multiple times actually. the ACC network and the Big Ten Network and the PAC12 Network 2 times and all 3 are national TV channels.

The ACC Network is not currently a national network, it's a brand that produces telecasts that air on various affiliates. According to wikipedia, that have no affiliates in Montana or Wyoming and two in Washington and Idaho, so not much exposure to most Griz fans out west.

You win--on a technicality.

I see those conference channels as pretty much regional channels, while FS1 and the ESPN channels are true national channels.

In other words, I'm likely to go to FS1 or ESPN and watch whatever it is they're showing. I only go to the conference channels if I have an interest in one specific team.

What's the last time you watched any of those networks? And why?

I watch all those channels on a regular basis. The conf channels are often my go to when I don't have any sports to watch. They often have good games almost every night of the week in basketball season. I agree traffic is more prevalent on ESPN but FS1 I'm not sure.. Same reason I have ESPN+ i suppose. I bet more people in not P5 areas do watch FS1 over the conf affiliate channels more but in the P5 areas...those conf channels are HUGE. There is a ton of demand for them.
