As bad as the NCAA have been about violations why wouldn't they cut scholarships to the band? Maybe ban them from bowl appearances? I mean if using a hose to wash your car gets attention why wouldn't free ice cream?

"Many things have been said about Lane Kiffin. Many, many things have been said (so many things!), and so few of them have been nice.

Here, however, is a nice thing we will say about Lane Kiffin: driving an ice cream truck onto the USC Trojan Marching Band's practice field at the end of a four-hour practice with a load full of free ice cream is a nice, nice thing to do. Oh, and hey, the band members got to say hi to Marqise Lee, too."

I didn't even know the band had scholy's.

Think it is a 500 - 1000 annual stipend depending on academic level, time spent with band, etc.
Okay, but still confused. The NCAA has a say in band ethics? I mean, how many blue chip band prospects are their? I've never thought about it before.

$500 - 1st year members
$750 - 2nd year members
$1000 - 3+ year members

Drum majors & section leaders get a little bit additional. A large portion of the schollies are funded privately.

A member of the Advisory Board at SC told me once that even the cheerleaders are on scholarship and it is fairly common in the bigger schools. And, why not? These kids work hard and make a lot of money for the schools, just like the athletes.
