Just a little historical perspective…

2007 Southern Utah, Fort Lewis, Albany, Weber State, Eastern Washington, Sacramento State, Northern Colorado, Northern Arizona, Portland State, Idaho State, Montana State, Wofford

2008 Cal Poly, Southern Utah, UC Davis, Central Washington, Weber State, Eastern Washington, Sacramento State, Northern Colorado, Northern Arizona, Portland State, Idaho State, Montana State, Texas State, Weber State, at James Madison, Richmond

2009 Western State, UC Davis, Portland State, Northern Arizona, Cal Poly, Eastern Washington, Sacramento State, Weber State, Idaho State, Northern Colorado, at Montana State, South Dakota State, Stephen F. Austin, Appalachian State, Villanova

2025 (so far) Central Washington, North Dakota, Indiana State, Idaho, Idaho State, Cal Poly, Sacred Heart

I'm not seeing ANY difference in the level of competition in the regular season schedule. The teams in bold are playoffs and you can't count that so much. Either way, the level of competition is not "substantially better" it is in fact very similar.
Laughable. Weber, Eastern, Portland State, Idaho State, and NAU were markedly better than they are today.

Just wanted to note that I made a mistake on my original count for the 2008 team. That team actually had 7 three score wins, not 8, as I originally posted. I accidentally counted the 45-27 loss to Weber State as a win. I've edited and fixed this in the original post. Sorry about that. It only strengthens my original point.

Oh, and just to make a note about why I chose one score wins and three score wins, I figured that those were important inflection points--if you're winning by three or more scores and the opponent gets the ball with two or less minutes left, the chances of the opponent winning are very, very slim, and if the game comes down to the end and you only have a one score lead, you still have a fairly high probability of losing the game. Coasting to victory versus sphincter-tightening, as it were. A bigger lead than three scores looks more impressive, but is almost never necessary to get the W.

You're really delusional. Idaho State won 5 games from 07-09, three of them in 07. Portland State won 9 over that span. NAU was 17-16 in those three years. Weber made the playoffs in 08 and was 5-6 in 07. Eastern 6-5 in 08. How is that any better? Okay, Portland State sucks in 25, but they weren't markedly better in these years honestly.

Montana State and UC Davis "markedly" better now than they were then.

You're pulling shit out of your ass and you aren't even looking at what you're saying, but the BSC teams that go down in quality means someone steps up to fill that void. At the close of the season, the BSC finishes .500 against the BSC every year.

So what about just the OOC schedule

2007 Southern Utah (0-11), Fort Lewis (D-II), Albany (8-4) combined 8-15 FCS record

2008 Cal Poly (8-3), Southern Utah (4-7), UC Davis (5-7), Central Washington (D-II) combined 17-17 FCS record

2009 Western State (D-II), UC Davis (6-5), Cal Poly (4-7) combined 10-12 FCS record

2025 Central Washington (D-II), North Dakota (5-2), Indiana State (2-5), Sacred Heart (5-3) combined 12-10 FCS record.

Again, you claimed there was a "substantially different" level of competition, but the numbers show this is the better season. All you have is words, show us something that supports your claim and stop spouting endless BS.

That loss to weber was BRUTAL. They had that beast of a RB Tafuna who just wrecked us. At least I think it was ‘08, might have been ‘09…. Either way, Tafuna and Jimmy Wilson colliding was a spectacle to behold.

The loss you're remembering was in 2008. It was the only regular-season loss the Griz had from 2007-2009. In fact, it was the only FCS regular-season loss the Griz had from 2006-2009. Maybe why it seems even more brutal in retrospect--Griz fans were not familiar with losing back in those days, at all, in the regular season.

We went undefeated and only got the #3 seed in the playoffs because our schedule was considered historically weak that year.

Facts just get in the way when making up lies.

The FCS is a shell of its former self.

You can't lose teams like BSU, App St, UMass, Georgia Southern, JMU, Old Dominion, Sam Houston, Delaware etc and be stronger for it. You guys have the exact same conference you have had for the last 30 years. 1 good team, 1 or 2 average teams that might be .500 and the rest of the teams suck.

I’d tell you to go look in the mirror and self reflect on the MVFC, but I wouldn’t wish that punishment on anyone.
