What idiots. Don't they realize that every FBS school loses money every year? They will be begging to come back to FCS.

Yeah, just like every program that has moved up from FCS in the past. FCS must be keeping them out....

May be true but does anyone really care, it's the MAC, though it has a bit more relevance than the BSC, ok not really both are irrelevant in the big picture.

+1

Hate to say it, but far, far, far more people care about the MAC (or for that matter even know it exists) than they do the big sky/FCS.

Is the MAC the big time? No, probably not. But at least it's in the neighborhood.

Hell, even I do outside of UM/MSU.

Sure there are more citizens in MAC country, they also have the big dogs like Michigan and OSU that garner most of the instate support, so there may be more that are aware of the MAC but stating there are more that CARE about the MAC may be a stretch. Stating that the MAC is in the neigborhood of the big dogs is ludicrous...they will never get to the adult table on Turkey Day. Is it right on principle, no, but money rules in big boy football and we and the members of the MAC can't compete on the SEC/Big 10 level now or in the future...and the big boys seem to be working towards keeping the mid level boys out.

When it shakes out there will be a lower level that I think we can and should compete in with the WACs, Cusas and other institutions with similar enrollments. We won't be joining the big boys ever, some of you guys get all postal over this, I really can't see why. Big Ten schools enroll 50 thousand plus, we will never be at that level.

No one in their right mind is even suggesting such a thing. What many of us are saying is that the MAC (a poor example; Mountain West would be better) is still "bigger" than FCS will ever be, and that Montana can clearly play at that level. No, we will not be a team in a "power conference". That isn't the intention. The intention is to move to a level at which we can and should be playing.

In addition, nearly everyone (even you) seems to be in agreement that there's going to be 2 FBS levels: the BSC teams in one, the non-BCS teams and those FCS teams with the forsight to make a move (already being done by many programs) in another. Then there will be the FCS level for those left. I cannot imagine too many would desire Montana to be in that 3rd tier. The "stay-putters" seem to get all poster over this, and I really can't see why. We're going to have to go anyway. Why not go as soon as possible?

Finally, many of you consider only football in these discussions. As a fan of all UM sports, I consider the impact being in an FBS conference would have on those programs, particularly basketball.
