JJ Needs to Run More

It would be great to have JJ run more. However, I wouldn't take the injury risk of letting him run much, until later in the season, like November or perhaps in a bigger game like EWU. From the newspaper article, it looks like the coaches gave him some grief for throwing the nice block on the reverse play.

I would have told the coaches to GFTs.

That was awesome to see him be a man and hit somebody, love that in a QB. Our coaches may know about being nice, Geritol, and grandchildren but they know next to nothing about being tough and playing football like a man.

That block was my favorite play of the game. JJ isn't a big guy but I think he is stronger than a lot of us realize.

Is Sydney still standing, Alpha?

Not sure how he can avoid throwing that block....on that particular play, isn't it designed for the QB to be a blocker out front?

Damn right, although the coaches would probably rather see him getting in the way of the defender than taking him out, it was one of my favorite plays of the day.

Yeah and most QBs are pussies and just get in the way then trip fall down and get hurt. JJ laid into that guy and actually blocked him.

I want a QB with a LB mentality. Put the hurt on somebody instead of vice versa.

From a post of mine on 7/21 discussing a certain Cat qb: "Maybe I'm wrong, but I've always thought he was a bit of a pussy. Many qb's are; not intended as a knock."

When you have 3 very good running backs and 2 very good full backs, I really don't see the need for QB draws unless the OC sees something where that play could take advantage of a soft spot in the D. I don't have any problem with him scrambling and taking what the defense gives him running the ball as a 3rd or 4th read. That has been effective as displayed yesterday and I'm sure that will continue...

As a general principle, I try not to agree with Alpha...but he is football savy. I do agree that the ability to scramble and run is a huge weapon in JJ's arsenal, and that it was big in the PSU game, even if only a few plays. JJ is a very smart QB. Some are lamenting his 50% completion stat. I would say look at the 4 TDs and no INTs. He had at least a couple throw aways to avoid sacks which keeps him healthy and saves drives. I don't know that I would send him off on designed running plays when we have four good running backs, several great receivers and TEs, but I am sure he will not hesitate if the opening is there.

I'm sure when the EWU and MSU games come along he will be more apt to take off, actually expect to see a few new wrinkles in the playbook.

Oh really, and what be your credentials about "being tough and playing football like a man?"

If I know JJ, and I do, I bet he loved blasting that db on the reverse. He is a hard nosed kid and is a fierce competitor. I think he will run anytime he thinks it will benefit the team.
