Jeremy Lin: Harvard Asian-American

Gosh,I thought Sean Hannity was the final arbator of who is or isn't a "Great American?"

Or, who is a great ______ hyphenated American. (fill in the blank with chosen down-trodden minority)

Back ti Lin. I remember reading a story in SI a couple of years ago while he was at Harvard. He really wanted to go to Cal. Monte wouldn't even give him a look.

Apparently Monty wasn't the only coach who missed on this guy. Kind of like why Michael Ray Richardson ended up at Montana.

Harvard-American....I like that...

Congratulations, Growler. You found a way to take a feel-good story about Lin and turn it into a cranky e-griz bitch-fest. That takes talent.

PS - The politics thread seems lonely...maybe you have an audience for Sean Hannity's Cliff Notes on political correctness over there?

I heard the new penn state coach refer to himself as an irish catholic american. What a pr!ck.

dropped 38 on the lakers tonight. and just missed several shots at the rim after spectacular drives through traffic. okay, his shooting will cool off, but when do you say, this kid is a teriffic player. how could any scout or coach have missed his talent? another blotch on the lengthy record of futility by the warriors.
When he does it consistently for 2-3 seasons not just 2 weeks.

J Lin is the first player in NBA history to get at least 20 points and 7 rebounds in his first 4 starts. Shot over 50% in 4 of the last 5 games. Think how good he'll be when he doesn't have to sleep on a couch anymore.

Lets declare March white history month and talk about how as a European-America i accomplished this and that...pshh if we ever want equality stop bringing race into the equation who cares if hes asian-american...hes American and hes a damn good basketball player can we just leave it at that?

Europeans only get a day. Columbus Day for Italians. St Patrick's Day for Irish. St. Erhos Day for Finns.

We have Battle of the Greasy Grass Day.

I want reparations for all the abuse we half Scottish, half Norwegians have suffered throughout history.

Nah, on second thought, I'll just keep working hard and improve my own situation. 8-)

I just tell it as it is, Jack. Libs like you always stick up for the weak and downtrodden, who feel the need to publicly display their ethnicity while at the same time. demanding equality and a level playing field.

I have nothing against Lin, as long as posters don't try to make a big deal about his hyphenated name. 8-)

This article, quoted below, calls Mayweather "ignorant".

"Jeremy Lin is a good player," Mayweather tweeted Monday, "but all the hype is because he's Asian. Black players do what he does every night and don't get the same praise."

Black players outscore Kobe Bryant every night? Black players who went undrafted rack up at least 20 points and seven assists in each of their first four career starts? Black players go from D-League DNPs to leading the Knicks to five straight wins?

Yes, Lin being Asian is a big part of the story. He's the first American-born player of Taiwanese or Chinese descent to play in the NBA. That's different, and therefore newsworthy. There would probably also be a lot of hype if, say, a black golfer came out of Stanford and started winning golf majors. Or if, just hypothetically, two black sisters from Compton dominated the world of tennis.

But "Money" probably never thought of that.

Mayweather's comments are ignorant,...."

It always concerns me when people start ranting about the race issue. So what! Whether he's Asain American or any other ethnic background, simply stating the fact that he's whatever he is shouldn't be that big of a deal. There's nothing wrong with pointing that out because it's never happened before and he's the first of his ethnicity born in the US that's done something no one has ever done before.

I don't know the motivation of all the posters making such a big deal about it who want to throw his ethnicity out of the conversation...but in my experience, people who talk like that often have bigoted or prejudiced attitudes. That may not be the case with all of you but it's questionable to me.

When Larry Bird was tearing up the league, everyone from all races acknowledged the fact that he was a white guy doing things in the league that had never been done before. I'd bet big money all the posters so worried about the "Asian American" label on this issue didn't get upset with the "Great White Hope" that Bird basically was known as.

Bulls*it......thats what started me knowing the media is bigoted.

I dont care if a guy is white, black or Asian furthermore I really dont need to be told (unless your blind) because being any race has nothing to do with your skill level.....ZERO.

All of these stories reported by the media are not written to inform they are written to elicit a reaction.

BTW Larry Bird is the best all around basketball player that ever walked on a court. Any player, any color, doesnt matter.
